Blame the Uterine Brigade!
Edited on Wed Dec-23-09 02:03 PM by boston bean
The White House privately anticipates health care talks to slip into February — past President Barack Obama’s first State of the Union address — and then plans to make a “very hard pivot” to a new jobs bill, according to senior administration officials.

Obama has been told that disputes over abortion and the tight schedule are highly likely to delay a final deal, a blow to the president, who had hoped to trumpet a health care victory in his big speech to the nation. But he has also been told that House Democratic leaders seem inclined, at least for now, to largely accept the compromise worked out in the Senate, virtually ensuring he will eventually get a deal.

3. Women should not feel at home in the Democratic Party any longer.
Edited on Wed Dec-23-09 02:14 PM by boston bean
For quite a while, I have felt they have used our bodies as bargaining chips, instead of actually standing up for us, as they promise.

I have also been upset with many of the main stream women's groups for not holding democrats feet to the fire on our issues.

We have become nothing but a ping pong ball for both sides of the aisle.

5. Well i guess it hinges on who is bringing up these disputes
Obviously so far they have mostly been brought up by right wingers and quasi right wingers.

7. well, they need the quasi republicans - and we are talking procedures
that will slow down passage of the bill. While amendments might get overruled by the democratic majority it would still eat up time voting on them and discussing them and whatnot.

8. You are part of the problem. WTF does my uterus have to do with HCR?
NOTHING!

And democrats who so willingly make deals about my healthcare don't give a shit about it.

That is the end result, spin spin spin away on that.

9. Hard to know how to respond to that.

But perhaps I am unclear. President Obama is annoyed because he won't have a bill to sign and a victory to a announce for quite a while. Part of the reason is possibly that Republicans are going to bring up amendments relating to abortion, which will slow the process (i'm not sure exactly how that works at this stage in the process). I suppose it's also possible that Democrats will bring up amendments and issues protecting woman's right to have an abortion. In either case, even if you get everything you want, it will kill time. From my perspective, considering how tragically long it will take for the bill to go into effect, I think we can afford the wait. But from Obama's perspective, he'd really like to announce a victory on this issue at his state of the union speech.

Also if you are unclear as to what your uterus and your right to have an abortion has to do with HCR maybe you haven't been following the debate closely. Many Republicans are very concerned that government moneys will be used to provide abortions - while you may find this reprehensible, it shouldn't come as a surprise.

Bryant

Edited to correct embarrassing typo.
