On MSNBC: Hamsher told Schuster that she had formed common cause with Grover Norquist
and they are joined in moving against Rahm Emanuel on wealth transfers associated with Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac.

I just have the most queasy feeling with where this is headed. Having spent years pushing against the likes of Norquist, he is among a particularly odious type of R that I would not wish to find myself recruiting as an ally. People, it doesn't pass the smell test for someone like Norquist to suddenly develop a concern for the common man. I fear that progressives are setting themselves up to be used as tools in the zeal to just be against. I don't necessarily disagree with most of the issues out there, but at a common sense level, this just ain't right.

Sorry, but I'm standing on the platform for a bit, until I'm certain that the right train has pulled in the station.

1. I Don't Believe It. Transcript?
Grover Norquist is a corporate pimp of the highest magnitude. Harper's magazine did a story on him and how he pretty much created astroturf as a money making industry.

2. Believe it. I just watched her being interviewed by Schuster along
with some one of those Republican robots they send out every day--don't know his name. I'm sure others have seen it and I don't have the means hear to make a transcrip for you. Was on MSNBC at about 3 pm CST.

3. I saw it too. Shuster was surprised and asked Jane to explain. She said

something to the effect that in the current climate Dems and Reps are closer than ever in wanting to fight the corporate HC industry and big phrma. Look for a youtube clip or video on DU later.

Surprising to say the least.

17. Her sell out is complete, young Skywalker.
Boy, that didn't take long after her appearance on Fox, did it?

I look forward to hearing from Jane's DU apologists. Outside of KKKarl  Rove & Glenn  Beck, I can't think of any person more odious to be cuddling up with than Grover Norquist.

Looks like Jane :wtf: Hamsher has aligned herself with the dark side. Maybe she can get busy producing black face pictures of Pelosi, Franken and the other Ds who are supporting the Senate HCR bill. I'm sure Grover would give her a hand with those.

25. Believe it - I just saw it too on MSNBC.
I must have not understood who Jane Hamscher was, because what I just heard didn't resonate with the kind of person I thought she was.

That Grover dude is a hawked up piece of hairball - I am not impressed by anyone who has so little fortitude or conviction that she must partner with a person of this ilk to further her agenda. I am gonna turn the volume down when J. Hamscher comes on the air. She no longer has anything to say that is of interest to me.

4. Jane Hamsher, Grover Norquist Call for Rahm Emanuel’s Resignation
"Before the White House commits any more money to Fannie and Freddie, we call on the Public Integrity Section in the Justice Department to begin an investigation into the cause of Fannie and Freddie’s conservatorship, into Rahm Emanuel’s activities on the board of Freddie Mac (including any violations of his fiduciary duties to shareholders), into the decision-making behind the continued vacancy of Fannie and Freddie’s Inspector General post, and into potential public corruption by Rahm Emanuel in connection with his time in Congress, in the White House, and on the board of Freddie Mac.

We also call for the immediate appointment of an Inspector General with a complete remit to go after this information.

We both come from differing political ideologies. One of us is the conservative head of a transparency foundation, and the other is the publisher of a liberal political blog. But we make common cause today out of grave concern for the future of our country in the wake of corruption-riddled bailouts. These bailouts continue to rob Main Street to benefit Wall Street, and, because of that, we together demand the resignation of Mr. Emanuel, a man who has steadfastly worked to obstruct both oversight and inquiry into the matter. Rahm Emanuel’s conflicts of interest render him far too compromised to serve as gatekeeper to the President of the United States."

7. See this is where people just stop thinking.
If I found myself suddenly in agreement with some crazy nutjob on the right, you bet I would reexamine my position --I might not change it, but I would damn well consider it.

And yeah, I don't relish being on the same side as Lieberman and/or Nelson, but I'm not on the same side as Norquist, Coburn or DeMint.

The association thing is a point to consider.

And when you actively seek to undermine help for the poor by joining with Grover Norquist, that's damned unforgivable.

11. Bullshit.
But she sure doesn't worship at Obama's altar.

So you be sure to destroy her.

I seem to recall plenty of opposition to Rahm's appointment here on DU. Suddenly he's sacred and untouchable?

37. I admire all that Hamsher has done. And I admire her bringing attention...
to this barf-bag of a health-care bill, but I can't
see WHY IN THE WORLD she felt she needed to join with
GROVER NORQUIST for ANY reason.

He is a complete tool.

She is making a stupid move here.

35. Indeed. Other famous examples in history:
Dick Armey and Bob Barr worked as consultants to the ACLU during some of the Bush years

Not as dramatic: Tsongas and Rudman forming the Concord Coalition.

14. That's it for me.
I have always liked Hamsher. However, there are a lot of ways to protest the health care bill. Doing ANYTHING with Grover Norquist isn't one of them.

Norquist and his minions are one of the reasons the US is in such bad shape to begin with.

step out of their corporate assigned role as official punching bag.
It's going to be hard for our corporate masters to play the left against the right on this one. Not to mention Rahm's guilty as sin.

19. Yep this went beyond health care
it seems her goal her is to bring down Rahm. I wish her well on that. I don't know if joining forces with foes like Norquist is wise or could possibly achieve anything. BUT, her gist is ultimately true-Obama/Rahm are selling America to the highest bidder while we stand by and hope for the best.

unlike those that are lapping this garbage up, we are in it for the purpose not because it comes in the prettier packaging. If our best tactic is to ally with whoever in accomplishing the goal, by all means let us do it.

33. Exactly.
Defending the status quo and calling backwards legislation progressive is, mildly put, self defeating. Not being able to stand on a single principle because something is better than nothing is cowardly and has failed miserably.
