Is anyone watching Countdown?
We can discuss it after it is over or you can catch the rerun.

8. O'Donnell just played a series of clips of Obama mayking very strong pro-public-option statements to
a variety of audiences.

It is very clear that Obama's statements today are at odds with the video that resides now in the public record.

No doubt the apologensia will tell us we never saw this.

12. Last I heard, he didn't campaign on the public option, he gave those
speeches after elected. All hairs to be split an infinite number of times.

15. Please get your "comprehension" glasses on ........ okay? Got 'em?
I didn't say in the OP or elsewhere that he campaigned on it. Neither did O'Donnell, actually.

At best, Obama is making a "meaning of is" sort of argument.

The clips show he was for it before he was indifferent toward it.

Or whatever.

It must hurt the apologensia to have to twist as much as is now needed to keep up the pretext.

30. I am talking about all the spin I am reading on the news and blog sites. Hairs are
being split, ad infinitum. It makes the definition of "is" look coherent.

And do not dare suggest that you would not take this kind of crap if the speaker was a RW'er unless you have your flame retardant jammies on. And with all the spin, you would probably go up in a "poof".

My fear is that Obama has said that he will be there to help reconcile the House and Senate bill.

16. Nothing surprising about that. He has always prefered the PO.
Unfortunately Holy Joe held the bill hostage and got it removed temporarily.

31. Then why was he
just a few months ago all for a public option? Now, hates it.

This could mean a couple of things:

1. He is losing his mind like Raygun.
2. The Insurance/Pharma companies gave him some big bucks.
3. The Insurance/Pharma companies put the fear of God in him.
4. He's just a lying asshole like most of the others (Even Obama is saying he wasn't for the public option...last night's Olbermann made a clear case that he was for the public option while campaigning).
5. He is playing his role.
6. Somehow AIPAC doesn't want decent health care for all.

I believe it was Rachel or Keith's show that I saw the video of him endorsing the public option.

There are probably more reasons for his actions....but it's Xmas Eve Day and I'm ready to drink some nog.

have a happy

Let's keep feelings out of it and talk about actions. What did Obama do when Lieberman held the bill hostage? You have to lash out, because you know what the answer is.

4. This is unreal... an exceedingly thorough demolition of the lie du jour
Endless video of Obama telling progressive groups about his public option plan and saying the bill couldn't work without it.

Getting into the mandate switch.

Just brutal.

5. Now Even MSNBC Is Going After Obama......
Ed was really tough on Obama in the Ed Show and now O'Donnell filling in for Keith is really getting down on Obama. Has the message come down from corporate America that Obama is a threat and they need to show him his 'waterloo' to drop a Repug talking point?

because he just fucking lied to the American people and trying to convince us he didn't. Good on them for calling him out on this -- we need to keep O honest.

Make no mistake about this, the corporations have been making out like bandits since Obama took office.

11. you have to wonder - surely he would have to know these clips
were out there. Bet it's a "semantic" thing.

There's no one I'd rather see as prez - but hell, he sure is getting "unlikeable"

If he pulls a "depends on the meaning of "is" is"

Hope they have a secret plan to ram public option thru w/50 votes.

Man, here we are again, hoping against hope that there's a "secret plan"

23. Remember when Mayhill Fowler recorded Obama's 'bitter' speech?
It's curious, then, that he (Obama) often has such a hard time making a connection with many working class Americans. With plenty of time for people to get to know him, like in southern Illinois before his first state legislature race and in Iowa before the caucuses, Obama has forged that connection. People get comfortable with the way his mind works. Obama is the man with the big picture; he jumps quickly from the particular to the general and back again, for he makes sense of the world in a synchronic rather than a linear way. For all his soaring rhetoric, there is a dispassion about him. And yet he blends rationcinative intelligence with empathetic understanding. This is a rare combination, and for many people, this aspect of Obama takes some getting used to. His Puritanical streak, moreover, while amusing to the press can be off-putting to everybody else.

Wednesday in Levittown, Obama told his audience, "We can find areas of common ground." But if we are going to move from divisiveness to comity, then Obama must show that he can lead us to see one another at our best and to measure one another at our highest worth. "I'm going to have a big table and will invite everybody," Obama often says. These were his exact words to Johnstown March 29. "I'll have the biggest chair, because I'll be President," he added.

22. There will be no veto
In that sense (among others), Obama strongly resembles Bush. He just does what he's going to do and doesn't let facts get in his way.

20. Candidate Obama will be the one running against President Obama
Candidate Obama will be the one running against President Obama in 2012. Primary voters will be reminded of the stark contrast between the promises made by candidate Obama in 2007 and 2008, and what President Obama really did during his term of office.

The issue will not be what the President tried and failed to do, but that the President didn't even bother to fight for what he promised.
