The Raw Story - "GOP aide busted for fake blog posts on liberal sites"
Edited on Thu Dec-24-09 01:46 AM by TomCADem
It is reasurring that most Republicans and Tea Partiers would have the decency not to pose as liberals in order to attack a Democratic President and side with Republicans as was the situation in this confirmed case:

http://www.rawstory.com/news/2006/GOP_aide_busted_for_fake_blog_0925.html

Liberal bloggers have uncovered a staff member to Rep. Charles Bass (R-NH) using government computers to make fake posts on liberal blogs in New Hampshire, today's ROLL CALL reports.

* * *
The poseur had raised suspicions among liberal bloggers after he pooh-poohed a recent poll showing Bass tied with Hodes and suggested that Democrats should not waste any more time or money on the Hodes race and instead should invest their resources in other races.

“I am going to look at the competitive race list to figure out where to send another mydd.com/netroots donation and maybe help out in other ways,” IndieNH posted. “Maybe CT or NY for me — they are at least close by. Anyone interested in pooling NH efforts for some of those races? Maybe we could even go help out for a few days in buses or something in November?”

After Clawson posted a notice on her site informing IndieNH that he (or she — Clawson wasn’t sure) had been rooted out as a GOP aide in Bass’ office, the postings ceased.

1. Did the poster in question have an obsession with "cultists" and "trotskyites", by any chance?

5. WaPo - "Win Points for McCain! Rewards Program for Online Commenters"
Edited on Thu Dec-24-09 02:01 AM by TomCADem
Also, during the 2008 election, we has the following:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/08/06/AR2008080603589.html

Spread John McCain's official talking points around the Web -- and you could win valuable prizes!

That, in essence, is the McCain campaign's pitch to supporters to join its new online effort, one that combines the features of "AstroTurf" campaigning with the sort of customer-loyalty programs offered by airlines, hotel chains, restaurants and the occasional daily newspaper.

On McCain's Web site, visitors are invited to "Spread the Word" about the presumptive Republican nominee by sending campaign-supplied comments to blogs and Web sites under the visitor's screen name. The site offers sample comments ("John McCain has a comprehensive economic plan . . .") and a list of dozens of suggested destinations, conveniently broken down into "conservative," "liberal," "moderate" and "other" categories. Just cut and paste.

Activists and political operatives have used volunteers or paid staff to seed radio call-in shows or letters-to-the-editor pages for years, typically without disclosing the caller or letter writer's connection to a candidate or cause. Like the fake grass for which the practice is named, such AstroTurf messages look as though they come from the grass roots but are ersatz.

6. Doesn't surprise me at all! We all know lots of 'em are here on DU.
Some are quite clever and play a good hiding game but others are so obvious, it's actually funny! I would NEVER even go to that other site we never name, but if I ever built up the courage, I'd be surprised if I lasted past the first post!

15. ABC - Rush Limbaugh's "Operation Chaos" Eliminationism During 2008 Primaries
I think a big difference between real liberals and Democrats and the right wing is that the right wing actually distrusts the political process, and understands that their ideas will not win out in an honest debate. Thus, as these examples show, you have a systematic effort by the right wing to try to disrupt liberals by purposely trying to generate division among the Democrats. This may be why you see a prevalence of right wing talking points on DU that would not appear out of place on Free Republic.

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/07/limbaugh-begins.html

Limbaugh Begins Second Phase of 'Chaos'

ABC News' Steven Portnoy Reports: Rush Limbaugh, opening the second phase of his “Operation Chaos” campaign to make mischief within the Democratic Party, called on his millions of listeners Wednesday to take part in the Sen. Barack Obama campaign’s effort to democratize the party platform.

In announcing his latest “orders from headquarters,” Limbaugh called “all forward position troops in the 50 states – make that 57 states” to alert. (During the primary campaign, Obama mistakenly said that he had visited “57 states.”)

Limbaugh, who is now referring to the presumptive Democratic nominee as “the Most Merciful Messiah, Lord Obama,” urged his audience to attend open meetings at which the Democratic platform will be discussed.

“This year, with the blessings of the Messiah, Lord Obama, the process of writing the Democrat party platform will be open to the public. Do you see where we’re headed here?” the nation’s number-one commercial talk radio host suggestively asked.

12. Haven't These Shitstains Ever Heard Of An IP?
Doesn't take long to trace back where post come from...especially someone who is a stranger and posting suspicious stuff...it's not if they'll get uncovered but when.

No surprise there are these sockpuppets out here...all's far in love and politics. Inversely there are those who think that any post that looks at them funny are sockpuppetry. The truth, as always, falls between the two.
