Oh Shit
Education, Deficit Reduction, and Jobs are the next 3 agenda items according to the White House correspondent on MSNBC. More progressives going under the bus

1. More like the entire country is going under the bus.
The difference is that Progressives have enough common sense to scream out in fear, anger, or fight tooth and nail to GET OUT OF THE WAY Of The Bus, instead of cheer it on as it runs over them.

I would just hate to be the guy who has to remove all those Pom Poms that will get entangled in the axles. :)

Edited on Thu Dec-24-09 10:38 AM by SoCalDem
and all are chasing those dollars all the way to the bottom

any boomer can attest to the fact that crowded classrooms are not necessarily the problem. The problem is that teachers have always been underpaid, for what they are asked to do.

The generation of "single schoolmarm/old maids" that taught a lot of boomers (we WERE "their kids"), has passed on, and the ones who stepped into their shoes were of a generation that had a LOT of options, so many people who gravitated into teaching, may not have planned on doing that one thing forever..and they had families of their own,,and y'know..lives..

This all seemed to coincide with all the "new-age" changes in teaching , budget cuts, and a whole lot of "new rules" that pretty much screwed up a whole lot of kids, and frustrated the hell out of many teachers.

And , we have had a whole lot of interference from the Bible-crew, always messing with books & curriculums.. is it any wonder that teachers are dispirited?

Also, as aid to poor families seems to always be shrinking, more and more teachers are feeling the pain, and many use their own money to help their students.

The ones at the top of the food chain...in education.. always seem to land on their feet, though :grr:

He chose Duncan specifically to convert public schools to charters nationwide. Destroy the unions. Reduce salaries. Eliminate benefits. Bring "costs" down. Create a two tier system with tracking for some, college for the rich. There's no stopping it now.

14. I am very fearful of Obamas plans for education. Start homeschooling your kids.
Homeschooling is tough though. And the truth of the matter is that Americans are going to be working so very hard to survive HCR and Cash 4 Clunkers that homeschooling won't be an option for most. So their kids will go to school to learn how to take orders, stand in line, and move from one place to another as a group.
There isn't much education happening in schools. There is memorization of the questions on the tests, and there is moving from class to class.

20. Just like with health care and Afghanistan, look to what Obama campaigned on
Look for some hurt feelings on education, because Obama has been about as vocal a proponent of charter schools as a Democrat can be. On jobs, look for the two things he's been mentioning: a tax credit for new hires and direct hiring for infrastructure work. On deficit reduction, look for a tax hike probably balanced by another payroll levy reduction.

Free Republic, and it would blend seamlessly. They'd probably just wonder who these new members are. Now we're not just disagreeing with Obama on this or that--we're cynically and pre-emptively bashing him based on the assumption that we'll hate everything he does, predicting that everything he touches will turn to shit (time to homeschool your kids! etc.)--just like Freepers do. I really don't know what to say about this place anymore.

29. Madfloridan who was an Uber primary supporter
has had plenty of articles about Arne Duncan's policies so cynicism with that is very warranted. Many are disappointed with the stimulus bill and his willingness to cut government programs while increasing military spending is going to piss everyone off on DU who doesn't get a chill up their leg when they hear him speak.

Watch the corporations with the most to gain in these areas. They will be front a center both at the white house and in congress. See what policies they are advocating for and you can accurately predict to the sentence what the reform legislation will be.

These four years are basically a money grab for politicians. Long dragged out fights, speeches about the plight of "the people", so called liberal senators shouting about principles they won't ever break, all to keep the money flowing in and then wham we are screwed in every possible way in the final bill.

37. Where is climate change policy on that list?
Obama made alternative energy a central focus of his campaign, but now that he is in office there seems to be very little push to develop those alternative energy sources. I wish I could be patient but climate change is an issue that needs to be dealt with immediately, the future of our planet is at stake here and we need to cut back on our carbon emissions now.
