I'm sorry but after six decades
I'm going to celebrate the passing of the health care bill.
This is a remarkable moment despite the flaws of the bill. Universal health care can be reached from here - this is a start.

I honestly think this is a historical, and pivotal moment, but it's hard to see over the bodies of people and policies left behind. When the smoke clears, I hope we are in a decent place to defend AND launch attacks from. This is still a long, long war.

27. Life is full of disappointments and after awhile you learn that unless you were born
into the Hilton empire your best bet is to hope for the best expect the worse then accept life as it is. After living through 3 assassinations of 3 of the greatest human beings then seeing a crook replaced by a third rate actor who thought he was reliving the 1920's only to see the dim wit replace him, all because the brain dead thought it would be wonderful to elect a guy who they thought they could enjoy having a beer with, only to find out the dim wit wasn't a beer drinker.

Congress is congress, we are limited to only being able to elect those where we live and put up with the dim wits from other area's that vote nit wits to make law's the dim wits want to force on others, thinking they are getting over on someone else while ignoring they just cut off their noses to spite their faces. So yeah this watered down, weak, lame HCR bill is the best we can get with the people we have around us. But life has a good habit of things changing after a door is opened.

20. I think that Flight 331 is a perfect metaphor.
It took off with people aboard who ultimately had no control over the flight. Those flying the plane tried their best to make it through the rain and wind. It didn't go exactly as planned. The landing was rough to say the least, and the plane broke into 3 pieces. It stopped 10 feet from sinking into the sea.

Everybody survived. There are miracles!

22. I'm not one for miracles
but they sure were lucky. The topography of that beach, rain damping sparks, and of course the aircraft skating over the road and heading for the beach - if that plane had tilted and hit the road or indeed headed for the sea, the result would have been very different.

Mr. Frankin - Aye!!!

will be much muted compared to, say, a year ago november. after all is said and done the way i feel is that the people are being led around by the PTB, that congress is corrupt, and that even if this bill passes it will not improve the quality of life for americans. it's like after starving for a long time, watching the other side feasting, we're promised a meal, and it turns out to be just a thimble full of broth. i'm still starving. the broth may keep me breathing but it won't change my life. congress had a chance to change our lives and they chose instead to kowtow to the lobbyists and obey their own greed.

Ouir lack of system provides a lot of money for those bottom feeders who live off other's misery, and they are very reluctant to let it go....might have to get a real job!

70. This is not a start, and universal health care can't be reached until this bill is undone
That's why people in the reality-based community are upset. Because we're not so desperate to feel good and celebrate that we ignore the reality that this bill as currently written is likely to make things worse, not better, in the long run.

74. Wow really? That's the kind of logic you use to make decisions?
That's terrifying and sad.

Bernie Sanders traded personal concessions for his vote, and he did so because he knew all chances at a better bill from the Senate had died, and the opted to try to get what he could out of it in exchange for his vote to support it.

I, however, don't have to worry about election politics - I can simply read the bill, analyze the policy (which is what I'm trained to do) read the CBO reports, watch, read and listen to analysis and commentary, and conclude that the bill is a mess of loopholes and giveaways that will ultimately end up costing poor people more.

Edited on Thu Dec-24-09 04:12 PM by Political Heretic
A remarkable victory for them in taking something that should have been about ordinary Americans and turning it into something that perfectly crafted to allow them to avoid any serious interruption in their profiteering and exploitation of a now-captive market.

I won't be attending the celebration at the "historic" signing.

I won't be able to watch the Democrats slapping each other on the back, and congratulating each other on their "courage" at "Standing Up to the Big Corporations". (Reid already started this yesterday. I almost puked).

I won't be hanging up a Mission Accomplished Banner.

This bill is NOTHING more than a HUGE transfer of Public Wealth to the For Profit Corporations masquerading as "reform".

People "celebrated" after NAFTA too.
