Can we have private insurance involved in health care... |
|
...and still have a comprehensive/affordable way to get medical, dental, and vision care?
Most of Congress and the President apparently say "yes".
I say "no". What do you say?

1. It's the 15-30% vigorish (profits) that diminishes the effectiveness. |

Ultimately, one would have to say no.
However, I have no doubt that we'll have single payer HC within a generation. It's too big of a competitive disadvantage not to. That's why I was surprised it didn't happen this time; I thought the business community had finally pulled their heads out of their asses. Apparently their ears are getting hung up on the way out.

2. The business sector surprised me also |

I thought they would have rallied hard in favor of a single-payer system to relieve the burden of HC insurance cost off of their backs.

5. Perhaps the trade-off of seeing a very large industry |
|
forced into a not-for-profit, heavily regulated position was too scary for them to support it - despite the advantages it might have given their industries?
Maybe they thought it would lead to unpleasant consequences for them down the road. Like someone deciding that their industry should be heavily regulated and monitored - or even that the government might close some of the loopholes that give big business such joy.

6. Forced into a position? |

Their health care packages disappear.
It's a massive net gain.

4. Absolutely Unequivocally |
|
Not! First off they are corporations, and the main object of a corporation is to sell a product for a profit. Secondly insurance companies are betting your premium dollars that you will not need to get medical treatment.
