Documents: Gov. Gibbons used Dawn Gibbons to build his career, dumped her for another woman
The trial is set for next Monday:

Gov. Jim Gibbons used his wife’s “skills and charisma” to build his political career and then tossed their 23-year marriage aside for another woman, First Lady Dawn Gibbons said in a court document filed in preparation for their divorce trial scheduled to begin Monday.

Jim Gibbons’ lawyer, Gary Silverman, said today that the trial, set for four days next week before Washoe Family Court Judge Frances Doherty, could be cancelled if the two sides can find a middle ground.

“The parties are discussing settlement,” he said, but declined to elaborate.

In her statement, Dawn Gibbons said the governor’s “secret plans to end the marriage in favor of making a life with another woman” left her publicly humiliated, financially insecure and in “extreme emotional distress,” her lawyer, Cal Dunlap, said in the document.

5. Rory Reid, son of Harry.
Because of that connection, I don't have a lot of hope of him getting elected. I expect Republican Brian Sandoval to win the GOP nomination and the governorship.

7. Oh, not that Dina something or other?
Depending on how the economy is faring next October, both Reids may exceed present expectations.

My in-laws live in Vegas and are active in Dem politics. I should ask them what they think.

10. Well, looks like the Reids' fortunes will depend on the economy, which is trending up.

I am pretty sure that the Reids will pull out all the stops. I wouldn't underestimate Harry Reid's ability to deliver.

It'll be an interesting election to watch, if for no other reason than the Gibbons sideshow.

4. It's the title of the paper article

Unless you have been living in a cave somewhere, you'd know Jim Gibbons is governor of Nevada and is a Republican. You would know that because it has made national headlines.

It's as infamous as John Ensign's crap.

6. She's wise to ask for a lump sum settlement
The last paragraph: "He said Jim Gibbons is willing to pay alimony but wants to stop payment if he loses his re-election, and his job, which would end Dec. 31, 2010."

What an asshole.

I hope she takes him to the cleaners and then writes a book about him.

9. Note on the witness list Chrissy Mazzeo
She's the former Las Vegas cocktail server who alleges Jimbo assaulted her in a parking lot and said he wanted to "rape" her.

14. Gee, and I thought Boston politics were funny
I guess the place really does deserve the reputation for staidness. It's certainly got nothing on Nevada.

Ye gawds.
