Wanted to see the 11AM showing. I told my dad I wanted to go thursday night and buy tickets early, but noooooooooo, he said they wouldnt sell out.

The 11AM and 2:45 Showings were both sold out. We bought tickets for the 6:30 show and were told that if we want to get good seats, we should be there by 5:00.

Saw Up in the Air at 11AM. Its the flying movie with George Clooney. Pretty good, though a little depressing.

I've never done Chinese for Lunch on Christmas. Gonna have to give it a try today.

1. Experienced Avatar at an Imax last nite.
Weakish but interesting story/plot with little surprises thrown in here and there. Enough character development for the the main characters to hold some interest in them. A nice portrayal of a stone age tribal culture dominating the technology driven militaristic invaders from another planet. The tail connections (you will understand when you see it) is an interesting plot device.

IMO the biggest plus is the technology. This is an alien world with alien plants and animals and humanoids. The landscapes and skyscapes are gorgeous. The portrayal of future technology is pretty cool too.

2. I thought it could be summed up thusly:
Bwana saves locals from rapacious exploiters.

The dialogue was incredibly bad. The character development was cartoonish. The only saving grace were the visuals.

3. Nice to see more DUers who didn't just fawn over the visuals.
I expressed similar sentiments in another thread, and a whole bunch of pro-Avatar people jumped down my throat because I dared to criticize the film.

6. DING DING DING! Onehandle, you're our grand prize winner!
It's a fairy tale for adults. It wasn't meant to be deep.

When my boss' son told his girlfriend's six-year-old sister that she was "too young" to see an Austin Powers movie, I added, "AND too smart!"

Sounds like Avatar is going to be the Star Wars/Titanic of its generation--a triumph of style over substance.

8. Well, it does have a good basic message. One that is pissing off the Right to no end.
And isn't that what's most important?

7. My Friend called it a Sci Fi version of Dances With Wolves.
I enjoyed it...and it was fun to sort of get lost in the visuals.

It kept my interest more so then a lot of recent movies.
