I was fortunate this year to shoot enough to feed our extended family at Thanksgiving and still have one left over for our more intimate family gathering on Christmas Eve.
Usually we roast them but last night I tried grilling one for the first time. We marinated it all day and I indirect grilled it for about three hours. It was pretty yummy.
We also had some ceviche made by our daughter in law.
Along with the yams, mashed potatoes, gravy and dressing.
Grandma and I are pretty tired today.

9. Omg. That sounds so good. |

We should eat like kings here because there are rabbits and turkeys and deer and pheasant all over the place but both Mom and I are incapable of even slaughtering a chicken. We're total weenies and were either horses in another life or maybe a roast.

Today, a glazed ham, TAMALES, merh's red beans and rice and an apple pie.
But, this year I realized that the women who cook traditional food in our family are either no longer with us or shouldn't be shouldering that whole burden so I learned how to make semita (a pineapple pastry) quesadilla (a sweet cheese cake from El Salvador) and worked on my tamale wrapping. Worked at those pots of beans and pans of rice to make sure they were good enough. I even have tried to get tortilla making down but hope the planet will not be depending on me for that one. lol
Still working on learning how to make turkey in the style my grandparents' gen brought here. There's not a lot I can offer my mom's generation but a little bit of good food, yes. :hi:

My mom and my grandmother have been gone for a while, and I realized that I've got to be the one to carry on our (Puerto Rican) food traditions. I've got a way to go before I make a good flan, unfortunately.

18. How do we get to Carnegie Hall? |
|
The first time I made semita, the only pineapple filling I could think of was that topping they sell on the ice cream aisle.
