Here's one man's rebuttal when faced with such dishonest, ignorant fear-mongering: http://www.tucsonweekly.com/tucson/guest-opinion/Content?oid=1666625

The somehow Gov't is the most inefficient thing ever created. The Repubs had to WORK at destroying programs to make that true.

4. Why anyone would vote for a candidate who doesn't believe in government, |
|
is beyond me. The question that should be asked of these candidates is, "If you disdain government so much, why are you running for a government position?"
Hydra, it's nice to see you! :hi:

It's nice to be back and posting occasionally, though I wish the situation on the ground was better.
You make a good point, too. "I am running on the platform of destroying government for you. If elected, I will wreck everything in sight" should NOT be a winning campaign slogan...so why does it work???

Also, when someone says that, I say "Well, nobody's stopping private enterprise from solving the problems of health care or the economy... what have they done to make things better?"
Not to mention, "free enterprise" in financial markets, health care, real estate, and manufacturing is what's led to the current dismal state of affairs.

3. Exactamundo. When people say "we need a free market solution to health care", I say |
|
THIS IS IT. If the private insurance companies could find a way to insure all those uninsured people and still make a profit, they'd be fools not to do it. The fact is that they cannot find a way to insure those people profitably, so they fall through the cracks. That's why we at least should have a safety net, but of course the conservatives want to wreck that up as well. Of course, the best thing would be for us to build a structure with no cracks at all, but then we'd just be a bunch of those dirty "socialists", like in Canada :sarcasm:

5. in fact, the free market always has an incentive NOT to serve every last person |
|
it costs different amounts to serve different customers, and some customers may not be profitable. the free market solution is simply to not serve those customers.
mcdonald's won't put a store in a remote area where only a few customers would be served. of course, maybe that's a good thing for those people, but the point is that the free market doesn't provide universal coverage in the restaurant business, nor in many other businesses.
health insurance is just another example. universal coverage can ONLY come with some for of government intervention.

8. It was private enterprise... |
|
.. free market actions that have brought the world economy to its knees. These one-trick-pony morons just won't give it up.
