Firefighters extend Christmas tradition

Christmas traditions are many, and a local one that is gaining longevity with each passing year is the visit members of Kankakee Firefighters Local No. 673 make to the Kankakee chapter of The Salvation Army each year.

Another visit was made Wednesday, when firefighters again brought presents to children who live at the temporary shelter located at the facility.

Kankakee Fire Department Capt. Damon Schuldt said he has organized the giveaway for each of the past 10 years. He collects donations from fellow firefighters, and about $600 was collected this year, Schuldt said.
