Poll question: Your FAVORITE Christmas show, Special, Etc..?

Marta and I have a list we watch every year. If not on the short list poll, what do you watch every Christmas?

Merry Christmas,

Steve & Marta

12. "Christmas Story" would be my pick
Edited on Fri Dec-25-09 10:37 PM by dflprincess
I love the way Ralphie's and Schwarz's mothers react when Ralphie says "Fudge" and claims that he heard it from Schwarz. That never fails to leave me laughing so hard I nearly cry.

"Only I didn't say "Fudge." I said THE word, the big one, the queen-mother of dirty words, the "F-dash-dash-dash" word! "

10. Bob Hope's Christmas 1944 Broadcast to the U.S. Merchant Marine Everywhere
http://www.usmm.org/hope.html

"Z-men are the men of the Merchant Marine. They carry a big wad of identification papers in a book called a Z book, so they call them Z-men. They're union men, too. They work for scale. Yeah, scale! Joe Squires worked for scale. He was a seaman on the S. S. Maiden Creek. He and Hal Whitney, the deck engineer, stayed aboard to handle the lines so the rest of the crew could get away before the Maiden Creek sank under waves thirty feet high. The crew was saved. They never saw Joe or Hal again. Did anyone ever make a wage scale big enough to pay for a man's life? Joe and Hal gave theirs voluntarily. So did 5,698 others. Did anyone ever devise a scale big enough to make men brave?"

44. I remembered that as a kid and recently found it on DVD at the library
Funny thing though, my thought I had remembered that it was Henry Fonda playing the role of the father in that movie. Where actually it was Jason Robards. Hey I was maybe 11 the last time it was on TV. Funny what fuzzy memory will do though.

It was still good and felt much like a play. It seemed like the scenes were played straight through without alot of fancy editing.

36. Just a few
One, I saw it twice and have looked for it, but never find it: Christmas Eve. I think it was one of Loretta Young's last efforts--she plays a wealthy widow who goes into the poor sections of town and hands out blankets, food and such to the homeless with her butler--her son, Arthur Hill, is the Scrooge who has alienated all three of his kids and filed a competency hearing on his mother. Young hires a detective to track down the 3 grandchildren to ask them to come home for Xmas, and.....(see the movie!)

One I like simply because of the characterizations is a TV movie called Santa Who? Santa, played by Leslie Neilsen, falls out of the sleigh and gets amnesia. He can't deliver the gifts if he doesn't know who he is, and ultimately, he helps some people even without knowing who he is.

The Bishop's Wife with Cary Grant, David Niven, and again, Loretta Young. Grant is an angel sent to help out Bishop Niven, and begins to fall in love with the bishop's wife.

One Magic Christmas, with Mary Steenburgen, Harry Dean Stanton. Steenburgen plays a mother who's dealing with bad days, and tries to do the right thing for her husband and her family. Stanton is Gabriel, the angel, who has a message from Santa just for her.

Black Christmas is a 1974 Canadian horror film, directed by Bob Clark, which has a very large cult following. It was written by A. Roy Moore, and based largely on a series of real-life murders in Montreal, Quebec, around Christmas time. Black Christmas stars Olivia Hussey as a young college student who must deal with a deranged killer lurking in her sorority house. Taking only 40 days to shoot, it also features Margot Kidder and Andrea Martin, before either had gained fame in the United States, John Saxon and Keir Dullea round out the cast. The film's score is by Carl Zittrer.
