Norquist's name is a tool being wielded by self-styled centrists to marginalize progressives.

Typical stuff... Jane Hamsher is not the entirely of the left and certainly not representative of it in every action, no matter how wacky.

The left's pathetic caving in to the reactionaries' vilifying of the term "liberal" is a truly deplorable episode, and we have only ourselves to blame for it. For many of us who aggressively label ourselves "liberal", those who distance themselves from the tag are so irritating that the very mention of the term "progressive" often makes us gag.

One of the great strengths of conservatives is that they don't give a damn whether people hate them or not, whereas the stereotypic failing of the left is the fear of not being liked. Sure, these are broad-strokes assessments, but both Clinton and Obama are classic examples.
