Please give some thought to the homeless this Holiday Season
While most of us are comfy in our homes and our children are snuggled in bed with thoughts of Santa Claus, there are many of our fellow human beings who are fighting for another day of survival. They or their children do not have the luxory to worry about Santa, they will be lucky to find a warm place to sleep and get a halfway decent meal. We look to the New Year with hope while they can only rely on the generosity of others, which far too often is only a dream for them.

I don't have a solution for this problem, but I do know that it is a sin in this country for people to have to "live" like that. More affordable housing would help I guess, but the government for some reason, does not realize the severity of the problem. I know thinking about this, especially now during the Holidays may bring you down, but try to imagine the plight of the homeless and you will realize what being down is. I also urge anyone who is capable to lend a hand wherever possible. Thank you for allowing me to try to get this out into the open.

1. K&R
As someone who was homeless for a large portion of his adult life, Thank You for posting this.

We have DUers that are living out there on the streets and out of their cars as I am typing this,so let think about "What If" when ya'll see some one who could use a bit of help...Sometimes nothing more than just a "Hot Cuppa Coffee" is all it takes.

For those who go out of their way to help,be it just a sandwich,a coupla bucks coming out of a car window or a good used sleeping bag.....Thank you!

8. Yes they are,Thanks.
It took a while,a lot of work (70-85 hours a week for almost 5 years) and a whole lotta being the ultimate cheapskate (I still drive the same 25 Yo car) But we were able to put enough cash aside to buy a small cabin on 1/2 an acre in Southeast Ks.

We still live like true rural America from 40-50 years ago (Land line phone,RR P.O.Box,Wood stove for heat) but we are happy and comfortable.

It is too easy to take what one has for granted,as a child I grew up in a wealthy family,in one of the better parts of Long Island N.Y. so I thought that everyone lived like I did,Nice house, good schools, nice neighborhood,New car ect. Quite a shock to find out that people still do not have indoor plumbing, even today!

And yes I can't count the number of times that my Well-Off R.W.Conservative relatives freak out when I hand my last coupla bucks to someone who is in more need of them than I am...They swear that one day one of these "Homeless Bum/Lazy Drunken Bastages" are gonna kill me for the three bucks I may have.

Personally,I think that I am happier for the experience, for I can truly appericate what I have Rather than believing that the next "Hot Electronic I-Gizmo"is gonna make my life happier and solve all my problems. Maybe thats why my GF and I have stayed together for the 27 years while EVERYONE else in the family has been married multiple times,or has real life issiues that seem to be brought on by a bad case of personal discontentment.

Maybe imitating/adoring P.Allen Smith,Bob Vila and Martha Stewart ain't all its cracked up to be,lol.
