Roseville Safeway Stores Left Unlocked
Police Say Items Taken Were Paid For

UPDATED: 9:34 am PST December 26, 2009

ROSEVILLE, Calif. -- People took items from an empty unlocked store, but not before leaving money, police said.

Police told KCRA 3 that two different Safeway stores in Roseville were left unlocked on Christmas Eve.

One Safeway store was located on Pleasant Grove at Roseville Parkway and the other store was located on Sunrise and Kirby streets.

Police said when they showed up at 3:30 p.m. Friday they found that people had been taking items and leaving money at the registers.

Safeway has not reported any missing items at either store yet.

5. Agreed, wow. Strange story.
Someone walked up to a dark store, checked the doors, walked in, took items and paid for them?

How does Safeway know what was "purchased" if they weren't rung up?

9. I could have got a pint of Peanut Butter Zig Zag after all?
I didn't think to try the door of the Safeway by my house. I did drive to the 24 hour Safeway down on Alhambra, but it was closed too- I could tell when I drove up even though the lights were on, because nobody was panhandling out front.

Anyhow, Safeway needs to get over this closing on holidays nonsense. People eat on holidays, they run out of things, and if family members are around they'll discover they need more hooch to deal (surely it's not just my family, right?) Pay the employees enough to suck it up and keep the frikkin' store open.
