The lingering Bush legacy: What to do about those tax cuts
http://www.mcclatchydc.com/227/story/81296.html

By Kevin G. Hall | McClatchy Newspapers

WASHINGTON — In the back of every Washington politician's mind is this sobering fact: Unless Congress acts, the temporary tax cuts it passed when George W. Bush was president will expire at the end of next year.

If the Democrats who control Congress do nothing and let the tax rates on the highest income brackets return to their pre-2001 levels, their Republican rivals and many Americans will slam them as tax hikers.

1. All of the tax cuts are due to expire next year
not just the ones on the high end. Absent Congressional action, everyone's income taxes will go up.

5. I agree
I have no problem with it, just pointing out that it won't just be on the rich - everyone will see their paychecks go down a bit.

2. With both sides claiming the deficit is too high they have to expire
The alternative is to reduce expenses, which you have to know will mean expenses that benefit the lower classes, not the wealthy.

6. This is something we must think through and get it right
there is no hurry. We don't want to pass these deficits on to our grandchildren. Plus all the other excuses the Republican used to hold up and screw up HCR.
