SACRAMENTO — Kyle Kelly had just paid $45 for an eighth of an ounce of pot at a Sacramento medical marijuana dispensary when a California Highway Patrol officer pulled him over on a routine traffic stop.

The officer noticed Kelly had a copy of the West Coast Leaf – "The Cannabis Community Newspaper of Record" – in the car and asked the 25-year-old Sacramento man if he had any weed on him.

Kelly admitted that he did. But he didn't have his doctor's certificate of approval as well, so the CHP officer confiscated the pot and wrote him a ticket for misdemeanor marijuana possession.

Amazing that that even needed to be said.

Do they not understand what the word "legal" means?

2. If he did not have his medical certificate with him...

how did he manage to buy MJ for medical purposes?


Seems like that certificate would be necessary...just as prescriptions are necessary at a pharmacy.

Anyone have an answer?

3. In Colorado they make a photocopy of your documentation before you can enter.

They probably just let him in because they know him, which is obviously a no-no.

5. It depends on the dispensary.

Once I was all registered with one of the clubs I use, I just show my driver's license to get in to buy pot or clones or whatever.

Others always ask for the State card. It varies from place to place. :smoke:

4. That's messed up, a couple other friends have had similar experiences...

But you need to have your med-card on you or cops will be able to rock your world believe it!

6. Why do these cops care? Is this a generational war? Is this a conservative/liberal war?

I mean I don't get it??? They know pot doesn't do anything awful to you. They KNOW this, so why do they arrest these people?

And for what it's worth I don't do pot, drink any alcohol (never been drunk once in my life), smoke cigarettes, drink caffeine, or eat meat because I have long been OCD about what I put into my body. So I'm not one of those people saying this just to justify my desire to use pot, since I have no desire to do so, but I do KNOW people who do pot, and I did STUDY medicine and drugs as part of my college degrees, and the outrage over this drug makes no sense. If you're going to freak out over this drug then you should be just as outraged over cigarettes and alcohol ...
