6. No.
What this shows is that most DUers KNEW how conservative Obama was, but supported The Party anyway in 2008.

Right, and Edwards was Mr. Progressive with mandates to garnish wage for the full cost of premiums.

What it shows is that a lot of people who pretend not be caught up in personalities are, and are about as clueless about reality as they are about the people they support.

8. At Least Edwards DID insist on a Public Option like Medicare...
..that would be available to everyone who wanted it.

If you listen to Obama (now) he didn't even "campaign" on that.

Edwards also campaigned as an advocate for The Poor, and the Two Americas.
So Yes, Edwards DID campaign far to the Left of Obama.

23. Edwards was simply a liar, we all are pretty aware of now.
Edited on Sat Dec-26-09 11:32 PM by suzie
He was a pretty face and nothing more.

So he was an adovocate for nobody else--only his own desire for higher office.

The man worked for a hedge fund that engaged in predatory lending practices--this is someone you want to say was an advocate for the poor ? Or is lying on the campaign trail suddenly a terrific trait. I thought there were numerous threads about how Obama lied this past week.

But when Edwards did it, it was okay?

He even got his dying wife to lie.

When his humongous lies were uncovered, all the poverty stuff was dropped.

There are candidates and politicians and then there is the total fraud that is John Edwards. He campaigned to the left of no one--he simply lied.

This is the second time today you seem to know what someone you claim is on your ignore list is saying. Either you're a liar or your ignore isn't working like you want it to. I go with option 1.

9. And THAT is the difference between ME and YOU.
See, this Poll was NOT about picking the eventual winner.
I don't think anyone here believed that Kucinich would WIN the election.
Most of us on The Left ARE High Information voters, but we are realistic about the POWER Corporate Money and Media has in determining the winner of elections in this country.

What THIS was about was working to give as strong a voice as possible to the people who represent the Issues of The Left (formerly the issues of the Democratic Party).

If Kucinich was NOT on stage in the debates like most "Centrists" wanted, who would have told America that:

*Single Payer Universal HealthCare is not only possible, but cheaper.

*that "For Profit" HealthCare is obscene

*that Mandatory Health Insurance is NOT REALLY Universal HealthCare

*that the Democratic Party and American taxpayers should NOT be forced to subsidize some of the richest CEOs in history by subsidizing the HealthCare Insurance Corps and HMOs.

*that the USA SHOULD give the Imperial Palace (Green Zone) back to the Iraqis, close the permanent bases, expel all Corporate Consultants, withdraw ALL US Troops, and begin paying reparations NOW.

*that redeploying some troops at some future date is a PRO-WAR position.

*that the "Oil Law Benchmark" supported by the Democratic Party is a War Crime

*That we can have election accountability with "Paper Ballots publicly hand counted at the precinct".

*that we CAN cut $Billions$ from the Defense Budget and still spen MORE than the rest of the World combined.

*that the RICHEST Corporations in history do NOT need $Billions$ in welfare subsidies

*that NAFTA (Free Trade) has not been a good thing for Americans who have to work for a living

*that Impeachment is not optional, our reps are SWORN to protect The Constitution

*that the USA should join the rest of the civilized World in banning Land Mines

*that the USA should join the rest of the civilized World in the International Criminal Court.

My support for Kucinich WAS to get that message out to anyone who had the ears to listen.

It is NOT about WINNING, or picking the winner.
Go to the race track for that.

It IS about empowering the Working Class, NOT the Corporations.
It IS about the direction this country is heading, and doing everything to halt the corrupting influence of BIG CORPORATE MONEY inside the Democratic Party.

THIS is the Democratic Party I'm working for:

In our day these economic truths have become accepted as self-evident. We have accepted, so to speak, a second Bill of Rights under which a new basis of security and prosperity can be established for all—regardless of station, race, or creed.

Among these are:

The right to a useful and remunerative job in the industries or shops or farms or mines of the nation;

The right to earn enough to provide adequate food and clothing and recreation;

The right of every farmer to raise and sell his products at a return which will give him and his family a decent living;

The right of every businessman, large and small, to trade in an atmosphere of freedom from unfair competition and domination by monopolies at home or abroad;

The right of every family to a decent home;

The right to adequate medical care and the opportunity to achieve and enjoy good health;

The right to adequate protection from the economic fears of old age, sickness, accident, and unemployment;

The right to a good education.

All of these rights spell security. And after this war is won we must be prepared to move forward, in the implementation of these rights, to new goals of human happiness and well-being.

America’s own rightful place in the world depends in large part upon how fully these and similar rights have been carried into practice for our citizens.---FDR's Economic Bill of Rights

Kucinich came the closest to representing THIS Democratic Party.
That is WHY he had my support, and the support of all the others on DU.

I am GLAD that is the difference between ME and YOU.

And that it is by Bobthedrummer, whose posts I have missed lately, and who I will fall over backward to recommend.

24. It is only the progressives keeping me in this party right now
I will vote for progressive democrats whenever there are progressive democrats to vote for, but when there are no progressive democrats to vote for, I will vote third party. I would gladly support Kucinich. If the past is any indication he may not make it to the primary though. If he didn't I would have to switch to a third party candadite. I will no longer vote democrat just to support the party.
