9. Ahhh, I see where some of the confusion comes in for me |
|
Puto
The male equivalent puto has different meanings in different parts of the Spanish-speaking world: in many places it is a pejorative for a gay man (this usage is present in Don Quixote), in others, like Cuba and Puerto Rico for example, puto is simply a comment on a man who is promiscuous and a womanizer (depending on context or tone, it can be extremely offensive or just a joke).
I grew up with and dated Spanish women and wasn't aware of this meaning, but they were either Cuban or Puerto Rican.

8. Calling someone a "faggot" is never musical |
|
Which is exactly the equivalent of "puto". I know, it's Spanish, we're not supposed to realize precisely what's being said.
Lopez has a long history of mocking LGBTers as part of his shtick.
And, yes, I know he was honored by and works with GLAAD. Unfortunately, some people really don't know what certain words mean in Spanish, and GLAAD is apparently full of them. Or, they give him a pass because he does things for them.
Either way, not impressed.
