Terror alerts issued in Indian cities


NEW DELHI, Dec. 26 (UPI) -- Intelligence agencies said the Indian cities of Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai were under a terror alert following reports of possible impending terror attacks.

The Indo Asian News Service reported Friday's terror alerts in the three cities came after Home Ministry sources claimed suicide squads trained by Taliban forces had entered India with the intention of staging attacks on iconic structures in the country.

A similar threat had been reported in recent weeks. No arrests or attacks were reported in either case.

The sources, whose identities were not reported, told the Indo Asian News Service Friday's alerts prompted increased security at key installations. In addition, security patrols at airports, hotels, railway stations and market places were intensified.
