veggie seeds and Glen Beck
Hi all, Hope your Holidays were Happy. (Mine were.)

I came in to find my partner had tuned the radio to a station with Glen Beck. Just to listen to the other reality for a check in I guess. There was an ad that played several times for Survival Seeds: http://www.survivalseedbank.com/

Several months back I offered seed for free, here on DU. 12 people gave me an address I could mail things to. One got back to me about how they enjoyed one of the greens. They had harvested all they had grown and hadn't thought of growing to save seed. I sent some more. I still have some for spring planting, or for winter planting in mild climates. They could also be planted in cold frames or starter packs to get them ready for transplants. Just send a private message with your address. Arugula, Mizuna, Giant Red Mustard, Red Kale, Green looseleaf Lettuce, Red Freckles Romaine Lettuce, Cilantro/Coriander and some Turnip (or turnip greens) and Parsnip and Lambsquarters....if you want any.

Happy New Year All,
ADW

1. Thank you for the offer! Have you seen the Gardening Group forum here at DU?

I have participated in seed exchanges on GardenWeb, and I recommend interested gardeners to check out the exchange forums on GW:
http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/exchind/

Everyone is really nice, and almost everyone is polite and reliable about doing their part in the exchange. Don't count on everyone having the same political opinions, in fact, it's better to avoid politics and religion completely. But let's face it, gardening is something people do to take their minds off politics, religion, etc.

4. No, I haven't been there
I did post in the garden forum, but got more interest from the general discussion forum a while back. I'll check that out.

6. Gardenweb.com has the best seed exchange forum I've seen yet.
People routinely offer SASBE seed offers (you mail them a bubble envelope with your address and postage enclosed, and they mail it back to you with seeds).

Seed exchanges are even more common on GardenWeb, which means you can barter and ask for specific seeds in exchange for whatnot. Selling is not allowed on GW exchange forums.

This fall I offered some native tree seeds for SASBE, just to repay the generosity of the seed exchanges I've participated in over the past few years. Seed trading is really fun and it costs so little.
:toast: To a fellow gardener! :toast:

5. There seemed to be one ad after another,
and the one short talking exchange was them laughing at each other over their remarks, which I couldn't follow, but I was busy and not paying much attention. Now we are back to KQED to listen to Garrison Keillor, Prarie Home Companion.

7. $149 for their damn seeds?!
For that price someone should come and plant them too!

My chickens want to thank you for the giant red mustard, it's their favorite.

8. Glad the chickens like them, hope you did too.
I was having a hard time getting things to germinate last fall, while we had an Indian Summer with lots of hot days, and birds eating the seedlings. I got some things growing under a plastic sheet. But when the rain finally came and things cooled down all the greens sprouted. And more than the quail could eat. Now there is lots of weeding to do too.

Have you pruned your grapes yet? Did most of the seeds do well for you? The green lettuce out produced the red spot lettuce in my stock tank bed. But both of them are about the same size in the burn pile I planted them in.

Take care,
ADW
