It's all just too much....taking a mental break from it all. Making my head spin!
As 2009 comes to a close - a truly bizarre year with great hope intermingled with disappointments, I find that it has all become unfathomable. Is it that the 24 hour news cycle and immediacy of the blogosphere allows for everyone to assess and comment on innuendo, rumors, head fakes, works in progress, or hair trigger reactions? To me, it is almost like if Monet or Cezanne was working on one of their incredible works of art and discussing, dissing, cheering every brush stroke.

One minute I am disappointed with Obama, the other I am pleased. One minute a favorite pundit or blogger is writing something that I can get firmly behind - the other minute they seem to be sleeping with the enemy. If there has been another time in politics like this, I can't recall it. My intuition tells me we are heading in the wrong direction on many things. The profound hope I felt is now evolving into some sort of generalized dread, but it is greater than Obama - it is just this large feeling that the things can't be held together and it will take something huge and awful to bring the needed corrections. I sincerely hope it doesn't come to that.

So the last few months has been surreal. The last few weeks has been just plain bizarre. I don't think we are at the point of eating our own, but the magnitude of the tent is really showing itself. As a rather chatty person (both here and verbally), I've found I just don't know what to say recently on the current state of affairs.

But....as 2010 approaches, I'll just say that my frequent visits to DU, the ability to offer some of my often naive thoughts (and not get shredded too often!), to feel community here, was really, really important to my sanity. Next year will be quite strange, I think. But DU will continue to be the place I go to get the latest pulse on what's going on. Thanks to all for the richness and diversity of thoughts, ideas, commentary.

A premature Happy New Year to all!
