Anybody else see how they made fun of Obama on Dr. Who last night? |
|
So I settle in to watch the season finale of Dr. Who and it turns into an episode with zingers about Obama. I started to think that I have never seen any US show that even mentions Gordon Brown or any other British politician. A little offensive. Still love Dr. Who, but seemed like an odd subject to broach.

7. Where they're talking about how he's going to announce that |
|
he's ending the recession? Or the character that has written the Obama-esque book? I thought the whole episode was satire.

"harriet jones" was.
if it's satire, it's pretty unfocused. is the black pol with the daughter & the book obama?
or is the actual "obama" character obama?
is the point of the satire "obama = evil pol who wants his daughter to become immortal"? or "easily taken over by time lord along with the rest of the planet"?

He was obviously included to make it seem more topical and more dramatic.

5. agreed. There was no political statement or humor poked. |
|
the story was pretty interesting. Reminds me of the old Who, when they had GREAT writers, but pathetic special effects.

mediocre quality of the writing.

and I've seen every Dr. Who, from the very first episode! Some of the writing on the new show is really funny and clever. Although I could have done without some of the 'emo-drama' ;-)

9. Where they said that he's given a speech that he's ending the |
|
recession? Or later where they say that its a big financial boondoggle of some sort, but it won't reach them? Seemed pretty derogatory to me.

No, it was NOT insulting. Certain characters suggested that Obama would talk about ending the recession, true. BUT, do you honestly think that conversation is NOT taking place all over europe, africa, asia, even the Americas?
Of course it is.

32. The mystery series "Jonathan Creek" made fun of G.W. Bush, and |
|
MI-5/Spooks frequently makes snide remarks about the CIA and the U.S. government's foreign policies, especially from Season 4 onwards.
I haven't seen the Dr. Who special yet (no cable), but I've seen online discussions of it.
