My Union & The Health Care Issue.
Edited on Sun Dec-27-09 06:36 PM by Xicano
There was a thread posted yesterday or the day before saying something about unions backing Obama's HCR. I just want to state for the record thats not the case with every union. Certainly not with my union, and I am gonna imagine not with many others too.

Here's a copy of my unions' position posted back in our September news print. And below that is a bulletin I already posted in a few threads here already.

As you can see we support government ownership of hospitals and people before profit.

Brickbat's union, I take all this talk of taxing Cadillac/Chevy plans very seriously and oppose it, even it means opposing taxes on Bugatti plans.

ETA: K&R to offset the unrec you already got, WTF.

5. Rec'd. Unlike the PO this is one area of the Senate bill we might have a chance of getting
changed in the conference with the House. We should all be pushing for it. I can't see a damned reason in the world for a coalition of Democrats opposing the House version to tax the wealthy in favor of further weakening our union supporters with the Senate version.

2. this is one of those thing I don't understand about the senate bill
If they are NOT trying to union-bust then WHY are they taxing union benefits? Makes absolutely no sense to anyone with half a functioning brain.

WHY didn't the Senate bill have new taxes for the upper 2% to pay their share of these costs? Why go after the working guy?

Unions are taking another backdoor shot from TPTB.

7. My Husband Retired Early From His Union Job (CWA) So I Don't Know
what their position is. When he worked there it was GTE, but Verizon bought them out and our health care plan is through them. They are still Union, but Florida is one state that you could call NON-Union for the most part!

I have been wondering what this bill will do to our insurance, which is a Humana PPO, better than a lot, but still I find more doctors not wanting to take certain insurances these days!

I worry about it, but guess we won't know until it happens!

Its an ultimate wish of mine that every job had union representation. Actually here's a link to that issue, a copy of it is still posted.

12. Thanks Turbineguy.
I would like to give a debt of gratitude to other unions that helped us out back in our 2002 lock out. The SEIU and the Teamsters, the LAPD's union, the Screen Actor's Guild and a few others helped us out a lot.

Hopefully someday in our lifetimes we'll see a strong rebound of unions again. Something I always hope for because gawd knows our country needs it.

Peace,
Xicano
