Scintillating statement for a person of your position to make, Joe.

48. What did not work?
The USA does not control Amsterdam airport. As soon as a threat was revealed actions were taken. A hundred and forty airliners were notified immediately of the possible threat. The immediate threat upon the plane was neutralized immediately. What would you suggest should have been done that was not?

Either this deity is powerless or else the invisible hovering Yahweh is complete and utter asshole who gets its jollies out of death, destruction and torture.

36. Yes, exactly. Why would an omniscient God allow Joe the Schmuck to
continue fucking up an already overburdened planet?

Maybe we would be safer if Homeland Security was reality-oriented instead of faith-based.

By the way, was it the grace of God that publicized the TSA security procedures? Or was it maybe Joe the Schmuck's incompetence?

But God allowed the terrorist to get his device on the plane and set it off.

61. It is not just benign foolishness
If some teevee preacher wants to talk that way in the process of shilling for tithes, that's not benign, but basically it falls under the "fool and his money are soon parted" rule.

But when a United States Senator says this sort of thing, that's a whole different story. And when that Senator is the chairman of the committee responsible for making sure the US is doing everything possible to prevent acts of domestic terrorism, it is an absolute outrage.

If he honestly believes it is the providence of some god, then it follows that it will make absolutely no difference what we mere mortals try to do by way of prevention. If God feels like blowing up the plane, then god will blow up the plane.

This is not an acceptable answer. The Chairman of the Homeland Security committee should be telling us what concrete steps our government is taking to counter these acts of terrorism. And "pray a lot" is not an acceptable answer.

Now, maybe Joementum doesn't really believe that -- one can only hope. Perhaps he felt this those words will be reassuring, such as people routinely speak of the deceased as "Well, at least she has gone to a better place now." That "better place" is 6 feet under, but there is nothing gained by pointing that out while the family is grieving.

During the grieving process, facts and reality aren't necessarily very helpful. But dammit, we just had a guy come very close to blowing up an airliner -- and would have if not for his own incompetence. I don't want to hear Joe's theory of the battle of the gods. I want to hear what actions HE is going to take to deal with these security failures.
