Clear pictures of Iranian protesters meting out a good kicking to the regular and irregular police could create some problems for those involved if the authorities wish to go after them or their families. Do these kind of images now flash so fast around the world that there is little or no thought as to their possible ramifications? Is this all a necessary evil in order to get these kind of news/images out to the world?

2. If I was protesting, I would be pissed if they blurred my face out

Those who don't want to be known generally cover their faces or make themselves unrecognizable, at least at all the protests I've been at. You can also ask the photographer to blur your face.

Edited to add: I know that things are not the same in Iran and people can end up dying when they are recognized, but seems like people themselves would hide their identities if they don't want to have the govt retaliate.

3. Protestors may be naive about later round-ups.
Websites should know better.
