Iranian Official: Arrest Anti-Government Demonstrators
Source: CNN World

Tehran, Iran (CNN) -- An Iranian national security official has called for demonstrators to be arrested following deadly weekend anti-government protests in Tehran. Soon afterward, an opposition Web site reported a wave of arrests.

"The undignified and disruptive behavior of the rioters is no longer tolerable for our people, since they have brought undignified behaviors to new heights by offending sanctities and values held dear in Islam and Iran," Naghavi Hosseini, a member of the Parliamentary National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, told state-run IRNA.

"The Nation's Judiciary must swiftly arrest the rioters who committed those crimes."

An opposition Web site, NoroozNews, said government officials took several activists into custody Monday, including some close advisors to opposition leader and former presidential candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi.

1. Iran declares martial law in Najafabad
Washington, 28 December (WashingtonTV)—Iranian authorities have declared martial law in the city of Najafabad, the hometown of the dissident cleric Grand Ayatollah Hossein Ali Montazeri, who died last week, a pro-reform website reported on Sunday.

The Rahesabz website said that at 9 pm local time <17:30 GMT>, security forces used loudspeakers to announce martial law and asked citizens not to leave their homes.

The declaration was the first since the 1978-79 Islamic revolution overturned the former Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi.

2. Iran Opposition Claims Widespread Arrests
DUBAI -- Iranian opposition Web sites reported the arrests of several prominent reformists Monday, including aides to opposition leaders and a former foreign minister, a day after clashes killed at least eight, the deadliest day of protests since the summer.

According to the Web site of former presidential candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi's "green movement," or RaheSabz, authorities early Monday arrested Ebrahim Yazdi, Iran's one-time foreign minister. He has led a tolerated reformist group in Iran. The site also reported the morning round-up of top Mousavi aides, including his chief of staff, a top advisor, his presidential campaign chief and the head of Mr. Mousavi's Web site.

Security forces also stormed a foundation run by reformist former President Mohammad Khatami and arrested two people, a foundation official told the Associated Press, speaking on condition of anonymity because of fears of police reprisal.

3. We must get involved
If we allow the government of Iran to wantonly kill and imprison these brave freedom fighters, we are no better than Ahmahdinejad. I know we have black ops within the Islamic Republic, I just hope they are successful in derailing this corrupt regime.

7. No, we must stay out so we don't mess it up.

On edit: The best we can do is publicize the news of the resistance and let them know that the world will welcome a new regime, and stay the heck out of it.

5. No Sanctuary for Hosseini!
If the people out on Iran's streets do to the ayatollahs what their parents did to the Shah and overthrow the current Iranian government, I would oppose letting Hosseini take refuge in the USA!
