So this guy in Nevada told BushCo he could decode terra messages in al Jazeera broadcasts
and they bought it:

We turn now to a story that reveals the real source behind the Bush administration’s decision to raise the terror alert level to “orange” six years ago. In December 2003 Department of Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge warned of “near-term attacks that could either rival or exceed what we experienced on September 11.” He claimed the information came from “credible sources.”

But a new report in the latest issue of Playboy by investigative journalist Aram Roston shows that the source was a man who convinced the Bush White House, the CIA, the Navy, Special Forces Command, the Air Force, and the Senate Intelligence Committee that the TV network Al Jazeera was transmitting secret messages to al-Qaeda sleepers. Dennis Montgomery who operated a small software company out of Nevada said he could predict terrorist attacks by decrypting secret bar codes hidden in Al Jazeera’s broadcast. The Bush administration relied on Montgomery for years to determine when to increase the terror threat level.

Journalist Aram Roston. His latest article is called “The Man Who Conned the Pentagon.” He is also author of “The Man Who Pushed America to War: The Extraordinary Life, Adventures, and Obsessions of Ahmad Chalabi.”

6. Was this Bush's alleged new technology that was like the 'Manhattan Project' he yakked about?
Anyone else remember Bush saying that they had a new technology that was revolutionary like the Manhattan Project?

15. It was at the end of 2008
He was bragging about a new revolutionary technology that was as big as the Manhattan Project, and was changing how battles would be fought.

Maybe he was loaded that week, and his handlers just said, 'fuck it, the idiot is done anyway.'

18. Yeah, they discovered a new way to make Manhattans quicker.
Bush liked the idea of instant booze; he always was immature and impatient, and hated having to wait to get his daily buzz going.

What's especially pitiful is that even after the pentagon muckety mucks put the kibosh on this guy's "software", he was still able to con benefactors and judges.

10. It's too bad we didn't know it was that easy...
Bar codes? Y'know, we could have come up with something at least SLIGHTLY plausible.

14. Maybe I could contract to decode messages from Hugo Chavez
to Iran on "Alo Presidente"! I could use 30 or 40 MILLION dollars -- January sales and all. :)

11. Did he really convince them
or were they just looking for an excuse?

IMO Bushco's "incompetence" was deliberate.

19. It's hard not to see it as deliberate.
You really need to be wearing a tin-foil hat if you buy the "incompetence" excuse for EVERYTHING.
