The local right-wing nutjobs are out in force in today's paper!
http://www.dailylocal.com/articles/2009/12/28/opinion/srv0000007162888.txt

I think my favorite part is the woman in the comments who keeps referring to Obama as "Obummer". Is that the latest meme? I haven't heard that one before.

Some excerpts:

"This document is called the Constitution of the United States of America. Every citizen should read it and understand the principles on which our country was founded. One facet is that we are a country "Of the people, by the people and for the people.""

"Our leaders in Washington seem to have ignored that law and taken the government into their own hands. They were elected to look out for OUR interests, not their own! We need to make our voices heard in the voting booth and throughout this land that we want our freedoms, and principles of government noninterference in our lives."

"A majority of the population of this country are against government-run health care, but our elected officials are determined to shove it down our throats. Let's let our voices be heard or we will lose ALL our freedoms our forefathers came to America to enjoy."

1. "Obummer"... sounds like the latest left wing meme, if you ask me.
Given the general attitude and disappointment of progressives around here, of course.
Just sayin'

two right now.

2. Remember "Freedom isn't Free"
They have to give something...What are they willing to give? I think turning all the men into gays is not too much to give or making everyone die in Obama's Death Panels, or even giving up all your guns so the Guvment can control their lives in every aspect..."Freedom isn't Free" has a meaning doesn't it?

3. Well, that first quote is pretty much accurate, and not Freepish at all.
The second one is also rooted in reality for the most part, though I'm sure I would disagree with the writer about what was meant by "principles of government noninterference".

The third quote, of course, is entirely backwards. The majority of this country actually DO support either single payer or a public option, but what is being shoved down out throats is entirely the opposite of that.

4. The reason I included the second paragraph...
...is because, as a commenter below the letter pointed out, none of these people were complaining when Bush was doing it.

8. The first has a quote from the Gettysburg Address, not the constitution
The second, of government noninterference in our lives, can be found in the Bill of Rights, not in the very broad ability of the government to levy taxes and create public programs to support the general welfare.

The third is ridiculous. The center position, that held by a majority of citizens, is that government needs to establish a public health insurance option to compete with for profit giants and keep them much more honest than they have been for decades.

6. Here is the link to one of the idiots that continually post in
our local paper. The dudes name is Brain Swift. He has also made some obviously bigoted remarks related to Obama. Why they let this local cretin in ever issue is a mystery. He is so off base about everything.

7. Wingnuts wouldn't know anything about the constitution if you shoved it down their throats
Ever notice they are 'experts' on the 2nd and 10th amendments but seem to forget most of the rest?

One of our locals recently posted some bullshit about Democrats wanting to take Jesus out of Christmas. His proof was a story about a public school that decided to sing no religious Christmas songs. I guess he forgot that whole separation clause.

9. We exchanged the constitution for the corporation? Didn't you hear? It was in all the papers.
I think it happened about the time Reagan decided to break the law and stop enforcing anti-trust laws. You may have noticed that the corporation you (or I) worked for started making it a goal to become a monopoly. The return-on-investment for a monopoly is so much higher. Of course with monopolies, you also get products that kill or poison children. But, as long as the Fraud Street crooks get their bonuses, all is well.

11. In other news, my letter was published in the San Jose Merc today
In response to another letter claiming that the GOP has good ideas but we won't listen.

To wit;
I had to laugh when I read Charles Taubman's letter in the Merc claiming that the GOP has answers. If the class warfare that started under Reagan and was escalated under Bush II to the point of a total global economic melt down brought upon us by policies of cutting taxes for the rich, de-regulation , two unnecessary wars and a complete lack of governmental oversight is his idea of answers, The GOP motto should be "Government doesn't work. Elect us and we'll prove it."

12. Excuse me...is she describing the previous administration ---
to me it sounds like it. When did the republicans ever do anything that was in the interest of the people and not done for corporations.
