"Pay Our Price or You'll Never See FOX Again"
LOL. THIS IS TOO GOOD TO NOT BE A NIGERIAN SCAM EMAIL!
Got this urgent email today from Time Warner Cable (my internet/phone/tv service).

TIME WARNER CABLE is begging subscribers of their overpriced service to
to take action now to keep FOX from raising rates, because, get this,
Fox is threatening to pull the plug if TWC doesn't pay higher rates.
:nopity:

So, I'm thinking, I hate HATE Fox.
I don't want to help Time Warner Cable SAVE the Fox channel. :puke:
I'd rather save millions from the daily Fox noise brainwashing.

I'm thinking

PLEASE pull Fox from Time Warner, please oh please pretty please

:bounce:

Here's the stupid email:

Don’t Let Them Hold Your TV Hostage

At midnight New Year’s Eve, FOX has threatened to pull the plug on Time Warner Cable customers – withholding their programming unless we pay massive price increases.

We think they’re going too far – especially in today’s economy – and we’re glad you agree. Over 600,000 of you have gone to RollOverOrGetTough.com. And, the overwhelming response has been to ‘Get Tough.’ With your support, we’re standing up to the TV networks to hold down the cost of cable TV.

We apologize in advance for any inconvenience and remind you to visit RollOverOrGetTough.com for the latest information on which channels may no longer be available as of January 1, 2010, as not all FOX programming is at risk in all areas. There you’ll also find a helpful guide to alternative sources for programming – so you can continue to watch many of your favorite shows.

Pay Our Price or You'll Never See FOX Again

Time Warner Cable is working hard to reach an agreement. We’ve offered FOX a reasonable price increase that protects our customers’ pocketbooks. But we are not giving in to excessive demands.

Don’t let them hold your TV hostage. Click here to visit RollOverOrGetTough.com now or call 1-877-267-1844 to learn more. Together, we can hold the line on TV prices.

So all I have to do if I DON'T want to see Fox news again is DO NOTHING?
What a great deal!

 :toast: :bounce:

1. Doesn't include fox news sadly, it does include Sun Sports florida.
So hooray, I'll only be able to watch half the Orlando Magic games, after I bought a digital box just so I could see the other half time warner was keeping digital exclusive.

GOD FUCKING DAMNIT THIS PISSES ME OFF. It is like watching Hitler wrestle Stalin and I lose either way.

11. here
http://www.keepfoxon.com/fox/story/view/58

Says local FOX news would be affected (the kind you get at 5 and 10pm on your FOX station along with local ABC, NBC, and CBS.

It says nothing about O'Reilly's FOX News.

As a loyal "24" fan, I do object to a cable news station eliminating THE "FOX" itself (home of 24, House, The Simpsons, formerly Arrested Development and Firefly, the one that brings in the vast majority of viewers) as it is available over the air for free. FOX sports, FX, Speed, etc I can understand because you have to pay to see those anyway. Why not exclude FOX News instead?

3. It seems to me that you don't understand the details of the dispute
retransmission fees vary widely and the channels that get paid the most (ESPN, TNT) have less audience than FOX. Networks have done without the fees in the past in order to be guaranteed prime placement on cable. That's changing and Fox is merely the first network to make a stink. All the networks are watching to see how FOX does.

In the short term Bowl Games, NFC champ., 24, American Idol in certain cities (NY, SF, Dallas It think and several others) MAY not be broadcast on Time Warner Cable. It may not matter to you, but I bet it matters to the people who work at those FOX owned stations. And no, Rupert Murdoch and Bill O'Reilly are not the only people who work at FOX.

10. Cablevision had a simlar fight with the Yankees and the YES...
network. The Yankees basically wanted Cablevision to up everyone's rate by 5 bucks to get the Yankees on basic cable. Cablevision thought most of their subscribers would pitch a bitch (and there were issues of Cablevision owning Madison Square Garden, MSG network, and a competing basketball team...).

However that worked out, this is different and very scary. Fox is a broadcast network and many, if not all, franchise agreements insist broadcast channels muast be on basic cable.

I doubt TW can dump channel 5 in NY, but I'm not sure if Fox could just pull their signal from TW. And, aside from a couple of bucks per subscriber, I'm not sure WHY Fox would pull it and piss off all those sports and Idol fans. (couple of bucks? even at a buck apiece, that's millions a year for Fox)

Be fun to watch how this plays out.

6. Fox is running ads in the NY market claiming TW will "pull the plug on Fox."
Of course, they don't mention anything about raising rates. lol

7. This affects me, too, and FIXED News isn't one of the channels I could lose.
I see commercials about this all of the time, so I looked it up. The channels in my area that are affected are:

The following channels in your lineup could be affected by our ongoing negotiations with some programmers:
Fuel
Fox Reality Channel
Speed Channel
Fox Soccer Channel
Fox Sports World Espanol
FX

I'm not awfully concerned about it, since I don't watch them, anyway. Unfortunately, FIXED News isn't one of them.

Also, one mistake that a lot of people make is confusing FOX News and FOX Network. For my previous job, I worked with the commercial networks, including FOX. However, I was concerned with shows like The Simpsons and America's Most Wanted. FOX News is something entirely different.

9. Fock Fox
They have some good comedies, which the fundies ignore when praising Fox noise. I can survive without their bs on any station, and supporting Murdoch is not one of my priorities. Fuck him, ad infinitum.

Fuck them, they can die. Others can pick up the good stuff once they die. If not, better stuff comes. This is the nature of creativity.

It's time to get back to basics. Creative. Voices of truth defeat BS. Better ideas take the high road and survive and the weak and greedy bastards die.
