Paying for war might make war end |
|
I was just filling out an on-line form to buy something and was confronted by an unremovable 'shipping insurance' fee of $2 that is added in just before the total price of the sale. You see similar adders all the time.
So I was thinking about the cost of our war on Islam and how its price remains unpaid. It occurred to me that this year's tax forms will be available soon and that might be just the place to take care of this nasty little debt of ours. We could just add a surcharge right above the bottom line on everyone's tax form. Just so everyone gets treated fairly it will be a multiple of your number of claimed exemptions - in traditional households there's no reason for mom and the kids to get off without paying their fair share too; what could be more reasonable? For corporate taxpayers, if any can be found, we'll just set a rate to be multiplied by the number of employees - give small businesses a break. The only question is how much should we charge? How's a thousand bucks sound? How about ten thousand?
How long do you think our war would last if we, each of us, had to write a check to keep it going?

You mean like a WAR mandate?
We will have war, and you will pay for it, or we fine you?

I think we should call it WAR insurance. Everybody pays ahead of time so that when we have war, its paid for.

2. I would love for our taxes to be presented as an itemized bill. |
|
Including debts incurred to foreign countries on my "behalf".

3. It would last about as long as |
|
social security, medicare, welfare and save the latest "trendy animal," if we had to write checks for them. Probably longer in fact.

5. Hey, I don't want to hear any bad talk about the Trendy Animal. He's worked hard to get so Trendy! |
|
In actuality I think Americans are pretty aware of how their taxes are going to Social Security, Medicare and Welfare - if anything they believe that more of the taxes go to those things than they actually do.

the OP is dead on. Americans would be pissed if they had to write a check every year to pay for them, which in turn would cause the people to question and to hold back on paying. If not, then the people would not need to be forced under threat of govt retaliation for not paying them.

7. Didn't Democrats try and institute a "war tax" just a couple of weeks ago? |
|
Seems like I remember the Leadership saying it was dead in the water and not supported by the Majority of Democrats even..
