Republicans would have impeached Gore over 9/11

There are a few lessons to be learned about the bathroom bomber incident. Here are six lessons that come to mind:

1. It is pretty easy for single, incompetent individuals to change United States federal policy through the threat of violence.
http://www.openleft.com/diary/16727/threat-of-violence-coerces-united-states-into-changing-federal-policy

2. Many Republicans believe that unions are a greater threat to national security than terrorists.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/12/28/AR2009122802131.html

3. Quite a few conservatives don't believe any criminal suspects are entitled to due process.

..................

5. If Al Gore had been President on September 11, 2001, there would have been no bi-partisan, United We Stand language coming from conservatives. The aggressive, partisan response we have seen to even this failed attack would have almost certainly meant impeachment proceedings against President Gore sometime in late 2001 or early 2002.

1. I'm Convinced 9/11 Would Not Have Happened If Gore Were President

But yes, assuming it did, they would not have wasted a second before attacking him viciously and calls for impeachment would have been instantaneous.

5. I tend to agree. Rather than telling the CIA briefer
"All right. You've covered your ass, now." as he rushed off to fish (like Bush did: http://www.salon.com/politics/war_room/2006/06/20/911pdb ), Gore would have taken the August 6 PDB seriously, as any competent leader would.

7. Well, I'll bet he wouldn't have done a W.
That is, if a President Gore had been enjoying an August vacation and received the Presidential Daily Briefing on August 6, 2001, with the title "Bin Laden determined to attack in the U.S.," Mr. Gore's response would not have been to remain on vacation for nearly another month. That's my guess.

Also, Vice President Gore had asked for more spending on security, not less. The Bush administration was calling for reduced spending on counterterrorism; in fact the headlines said as much in The New York Times of September 11th, if I am not mistaken.

9. I'll go even further into murky waters and suggest Gore knew what was coming
... re the "election," and the big, new, lucrative enemy that would soon appear to allow implementation of of the pre-arranged plans (PNAC, Patriot Act).

10. Gore did know. The Clinton outgoing Administration gave the incoming
bu$h administration a report about the coming attack to within less than 2 weeks. Cheney shelved it and proceeded to produce his own report. Kindaslizy Rice was to do a press conference on it on September 12, 2001. The conference never took place and the contents were never made public.

13. Yes, which is precisely why Gore was never going to be.

2. He needed the bathroom bomber to learn that?
I realized that the morning of 9/11. Of course I also realized that 9/11 would be used to justify wars and to prop up a failing president too. Somethings I really hate to be right about.

3. Yes, 9/11 certainly happened on Bush's watch
and not in his first days or weeks or months, but over 7 months after he had taken office. He had plenty of warnings, but none specific enough for him inasmuch as they did not give the exact time, date, and place as well as the method and names of the terrorists. Had it been Gore the Republicans would have absolutely condemned him.
