'Christmas tree surfing' teen sustains head injury
'Christmas tree surfing' teen sustains head injury
December 29, 2009 | 7:11 am
The Orange County Sheriff's Department is investigating an accident in which a teenager was injured while riding on top of a Christmas tree being dragged by a car.

It appears to be a local example of "Christmas tree surfing," a potentially dangerous fad that has been chronicled on YouTube.

The accident occurred Sunday night in San Clemente. The 18-year-old and another person were atop Christmas trees being pulled by a car when the vehicle turned. The victim slammed into a parked car.

-------------

The teen was taken to Mission Hospital with wounds to his head. He's expected to recover. The driver fled the scene.

215-pound Dion Jordan and a few teammates were attempting to siphon gasoline from a vehicle parked in a team member's garage using a vacuum cleaner when the spark from the vacuum caused the explosion.
