Drummer Jimmy Sullivan dead at 28

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif., Dec. 29 (UPI) -- Avenged Sevenfold drummer Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan has died of apparent natural causes in his Huntington Beach, Calif., home, officials said. He was 28.

KTLA-TV, Los Angeles, reported an autopsy to determine the exact cause of the rocker's death is scheduled Tuesday.

Sullivan was discovered unresponsive at his home Monday, KTLA said.

"It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we tell you of the passing today of Jimmy 'The Rev' Sullivan," his band said in a message posted on its Web site Monday. "Jimmy was not only one of the world's best drummers, but more importantly he was our best friend and brother. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jimmy's family and we hope you will respect their privacy during this difficult time."

1. Apparent natural causes at age 28?
Sure.

3. Yeah, just like Brittany Murphy!
It's ridiculous to imply that someone so young dies of natural causes.. "cause unknown at this point", would be more accurate.

The toxicology report for both of these folks might yield more answers.

16. That part's hardly news, at least
Age 26 or 28 or something in that realm's considered a cursed age for musicians, given how many of them OD themselves to death around then.

11. Depends on what you consider natural causes??
I had a seemingly healthy friend of 26 die of a heart attack. Wasn't brought on by anything but a condition that he either didn't know he had or didn't have the health insurance to maintain. Is that natural causes? Yeah, you can usually roll the dice and be right about a rocker's death being attributed to something, but it disturbs me how many people actually seem to get off on talking about it.

14. Who's getting off on it? It's just a discussion, IMO..
For ten years I worked with cardiac patients as a critical care nurse, and we did occasionally see the seemingly healthy young person who had suffered cardiac arrest due to a previously unrecognized congenital defect, etc.. and though it was rare, it certainly was and is a great tragedy.. and I am sorry to hear about your friend..

When my sons heard about Jimmy Sullivan passing, they both mentioned that he was known to party hard.. for whatever reason he passed, due to ingestion of drugs, or "natural cause" due to cardiac defect, it's sad to hear that someone so young has died..

4. That always irks me when they say that.

Everybody dies from SOMETHING. Cancer could be considered natural causes. Being ripped apart by a bear could be considered natural causes. Just about anything that happens could be considered natural causes. I don't even like it when they say an elderly person died of natural causes, because it doesn't explain anything. I do not like it when someone really young dies and they try to claim natural causes either. It sounds even more nefarious then. I feel like saying, "Lazy asses, do an autopsy and quit copping out."

5. Sort of off topic, but have you ever read old histories of people?
While researching my mother's family, I found old relatives who had died of :

dropsy
ague
and one died of exhaustion

Of course the diagnostic techniques in the 19th century were pretty primitive, so what they really died of, is anyone's guess..

15. Yes, I have read them, SoCalDem..
Those vague, antiquated "medical" terms have always amused me.

12. another thing
I had three family members die within a 16 month time period and we used the same funeral rip off home (mainly because some plots were pre-paid) and each time the FD stated he could only use "heart failure" as cause of death, regardless of actual cause, for the obit. He told us they (FD's) apparently have conventions and by vote that was the agreed upon signature cause. keeps things "tidy" we were told.

9. it can happen
my mom is a CCU nurse and has seen people as young as 25 drop dead from heart attacks - not morbidly obese people either.

13. Didn't know of him, but always sad. RIP Jimmy.
If it is death due to excess it makes it all the more tragic. Why do so many young and talented people seem to want to go the way of their rock and roll forefathers as it were (Joplin, Hendrix, Morrison probably, Moon, Scott, Bonham et al.)
