Unhappy, unloved, frustrated, horny young men, driven mad by rigid theocracy
Edited on Wed Dec-30-09 08:14 AM by SoCalDem
That seems to be the main profile for our "enemy".

The style of "faith" they practice seems to set them up to be so miserable, in their very existence, that oft-married, many-childrened elders eagerly indoctrinate them to be their puppets, and send them to death, as long as they take innocents with them.

In a perverse way, it's quite similar to our elder-statesmen/generals, doling out marching orders to our own military, busily attempting to win the last war, as they set out across the globe looking for these lonely, misguided, but very deadly young men..

Our soldiers are often the same ages, and equally frustrated..but their frustration often comes from the inability to support the loved ones they DID get to love and make families with. military action was their way out too... They needed military lives to afford life..and the other side chose paramilitary life---jihad-- because they were too afraid to live life..

2. That's why republicans love war so much.. for "other people" to fight, though
most of then are too chicken... but they sure do love to wave that sword around, and boss others into battle.

10. I know many men around my age
as we okies are for the most part sedentary types so we settle down and take root. Most if not all the ones I know who skipped out on the 'Nam war wither by deceit or deferments, are republicons today with many of those loudly beating the war drums now that they themselves are too old to have to worry about taking part themselves.

5. The Need To Belong...
The profile you put out there could cover young men going back to virtually every age and civilization. I think it cuts at a more core need...the need many young people need of community; of being accepted. In many cases its a byproduct of neglect...parents too busy with their own lives or survival and peers become the support system. We see it with kids who get caught up in gangs or those who choose to get lost in a religion. In many cases, their refuges are controlled by "elders" who channel their angers and frustrations to their own advantages.

Sex plays a role as its a byproduct of being in these communities...where testosterone levels soar and sex is considered a status symbol. As we neglect young people the greater these tensions grow and the more they're lured into groups to seek acceptance.

Cheers...

6. All of this makes some sense in an anthropological way
I watched a documentary about bonobo chimps. They are the happiest and most peaceful of all the ape species, probably because they fuck all the time. To them it's like a kiss on the cheek or just a hug.

9. I also read once that the older female gorillas chase the adolescent males out of the group
and make them sit on the sidelines til they behave.
That makes sense to me.

24. They also
war on each other, and murder youngsters.

They're a little closer to humans than is maybe a good thing.

Just food for thought.

14. From Steve Earle - "Rich Man's War"
I love how he makes the contrast...

Rich Man's War

Jimmy joined the army ‘cause he had no place to go
There ain’t nobody hirin’
‘round here since all the jobs went
down to Mexico
Reckoned that he’d learn himself a trade maybe see the world
Move to the city someday and marry a black haired girl
Somebody somewhere had another plan
Now he’s got a rifle in his hand
Rollin’ into Baghdad wonderin’ how he got this far
Just another poor boy off to fight a rich man’s war

Bobby had an eagle and a flag tattooed on his arm
Red white and blue to the bone when he landed in Kandahar
Left behind a pretty young wife and a baby girl
A stack of overdue bills and went off to save the world
Been a year now and he’s still there
Chasin’ ghosts in the thin dry air
Meanwhile back at home the finance company took his car
Just another poor boy off to fight a rich man’s war

When will we ever learn
When will we ever see
We stand up and take our turn
And keep tellin’ ourselves we’re free

Ali was the second son of a second son
Grew up in Gaza throwing bottles and rocks when the tanks would come
Ain’t nothin’ else to do around here just a game children play
Somethin’ ‘bout livin’ in fear all your life makes you hard that way
He answered when he got the call
Wrapped himself in death and praised Allah
A fat man in a new Mercedes drove him to the door
Just another poor boy off to fight a rich man’s war

If you don't have Steve's CD "The Revolution Starts Now," get up from your computer and go out and buy it right now -- I'm showing my age. Just download the friggin' thing! It's classic!

18. that's the MSM's story, and they're sticking to it:
unreflective broad-brushing and cheesy pop sociobiology, in a grand narrative of young freedom (us--whether US or liberals) vs. elderly oppression a la Footloose

of course, it's really a projection of our ideal selves onto a situation that doesn't fit: none of the many sides in Iran right now are surrogates for "the people" of America, or America's rulers: the Yemeni context is required when considering Yemen, the Iranian for Iran, the Iraqi for Iraq, etc.

23. Silly, simplistic, ignorant stereotyping ...
and perhaps a bit of projection.

Do you know any Muslims and have you ever been to a Muslim country? Or do you get your view of Muslims from "24"?

This is pseudo-intellectual masturbation.
