Poll question: Do you believe the Flight NW 253 incident was a False Flag operation?
i.e. the terrorist was working for elements within the United States Government, knowingly or unknowingly.

2. I don't know - i have seen some posters hint that it was a false flag operation
My guess is it would be Bush holdovers in the intelligence community? Or, if you think Obama is a blackguard, Obama himself.

3. Or the forces that do these things operate independently...
with corrupt banking/drug money funding and with some help (moles) inside the US Government.

19. perhaps even financially independent

And in this case, all of the actors save the guy in semtex underoos could be acting purely out of financial self-interest, since they all knew it was never going to explode, it was a safe bet.

In this case the 'it' in a putative MIHOP theory was never going to explode or kill anyone, since the bomb had no fuse, and everyone up whatever chain of command exists above the underoo bomber, they all must have known this...

4. US -- very unlikely; some other organization? -- possibly
Whoever designed the device to fizzle instead of detonate was a genius!

The propaganda value is much better. The damage that the US will inflict on itself is much greater.

5. That is such bullshit. I suppose global warming is a false flag op as well.
This amoral, egotistical, neurotic fanatic embraced a violent radicalized form of Islam, and then acted on those beliefs. His friggin father thought he posed a serious risk. Your conjuring up irrational notions based on zero facts, zero probability is absolutely no different in any way whatsoever from Orly Taiz, the birthers, the climate change deniers, etc. Absolutely unfriggin believable.

But occasionally I try to phrase my polls in a neutral manner.

Odd that birthers, global warming deniers, creationists etc also frame insinuations as neutral questions so as to appear disinterested. Just sayin.

7. whether or not it was a false flag op--the truly sad part is that it is not beyond the scope of our
imagination to think such a thing of our institutions.

I suppose if Cheney tasked Blackwater with it that would be outside the government?

24. That's one way it's done....
Another more traditional way is where an agency, or resources within an agency
act on their own while keeping the three formal branches out of the loop.

10. I have no idea but plenty of questions....

It looks to me someone was used as a tool. I do not think that bomb was made to go off.

How come we all here this talk of needing to bomb Yemen .. then we get a convenient reason to justify it.

How come a rich engineering student would want to do this ..commit suicide and mass murder ..is British night life that boring for a young rich guy? ? How did he get so radicalized? Where did he get the explosives?

BIG ONE: Why would his very own father warn the CIA and WHY didn't they act ? I mean if someones parent calls and says their son is dangerous you do not treat it as an anonymous tip.

Why was he not on the no fly list?

How come he did not have a passport? He had been to other countries. And who was it that let him board without one? Who was the well dressed man who witnesses saw at the counter with him?

How is it he was educated in engineering yet so incompetent?

On the one hand you have 9/11 .. 4 airliners hijacked ..everything carefully planned and executed.

Then you have two ..who appear to be totally disturbed young idiots with dud bombs do nothing but book rooms at local SuperMax prison for the next 50 years.

The FBI says he is singing like a canary ... if so I wish they would clue us in as the pubs say we need to go all Jack Bauer (24) on him.

13. If it was...they found out one thing
passengers are not going to take it sitting down. That the terrorist has to be sure that passengers are checking him out. I know racial profiling isn't politically correct. But if I were on a plane from overseas I would watch someone more closely from one of those countries. If they acted suspicious I would really really watch them.

16. They found out two things
By meekly and sometimes enthusiastically submitting to over the top "security" measures, people are showing they will do whatever the government wants as long as they're frightened enough.

14. Nothing empowers the military-industrial complex like acts of terror
Take one well-timed stunt, mix in a corporate-owned media propaganda blitz, add a dash of fearmongering -- and suddenly there's billions of dollars flowing to the leftover cronies from Bu$hCo, like Blackwater KBR, and all the usual suspects.

It sure sounds easy enough for these lawless, desperate thugs.

And we all know the GOP has ZERO morals at its core.

18. Not the point
I said it before and I'll say it again: Some spoiled little rich kid lights his ass on fire and now we have to give up more of our rights? Hell no! Whether this brat was al-Qa'ida or not is irrelevant. My enemy in this is the group of corporatists trying to take away more of my democratic rights.
