Mich. sex offender may have parole revoked


PONTIAC, Mich., Dec. 30 (UPI) -- A prosecutor in Oakland County, Mich., says the parole of a convicted sex offender should be revoked because the man was released from prison too early.

The Detroit News said Wednesday Oakland County Prosecutor Jessica Cooper insists Scott Wayne Hankins should not have been released from prison Nov. 3 after only serving six years of a six- to 30-year prison sentence.

Cooper alleges state officials put the general public in danger by prematurely releasing Hankins, who was convicted of first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a victim less than 13.

Hankins allegedly also confessed to molesting a 21-year-old learning disabled woman while previously on probation, along with other children between the ages of 7 and 12.

Hankins' attorney, Michael J. McCarthy, insists his client's parole should not be revoked by a county judge because Hankins has not shown himself to be a danger to anyone since his release. The attorney also pointed out that Hankins had no misconduct incidents while in prison.
