58% oppose healthcare plan: Rasmussen. But 39% support it!
Many have questioned whether those who favor or oppose the health care plan in Congress really know what’s in it. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey suggests that they have a decent understanding of the bill and that voter attitudes towards the legislation have hardened.

While several individual components of the plan are popular, reminding voters of what’s included in the plan has virtually no impact on support for the overall legislation. This suggests that there are not major surprises in the legislation that will cause people to change their opinion of it.

Thirty-nine percent (39%) of voters nationwide support the plan, and 58% are opposed. That’s consistent with our weekly tracking of the issue which has found support between 38% and 41% every week from just before Thanksgiving to the end of 2009.

The new figures include 19% who Strongly Favor the plan and 46% who Strongly Oppose it.

Maybe they heard that a former Wellpoint VP wrote it instead of their Senators.

1. A few of our members in Congress I fear may be sacrificed
over passage of the current bill in 2010. My bet is the progressives hang on though.

13. Yep. Ironically, it's the Blue Dogs who will suffer from Dem disillusionment.
I'll try not to feel too bad for them.

17. I'm pretty sure I won't shed a tear. Of course, if they had been
pressured to tow the line instead of progressives and something such as a medicare buy in or robust public alternative was pushed through ironicallt, they might would be reelected.

2. But what is the % of those that oppose the plan...
because it's not strong enough/no single payer/no public option??? I don't think I've ever seen that broken down.

4. they will never do that
because they are trying to shape the general publics perception against the bill.

BTW -why do we give a fuck about what (R)Assmussen has to say?

5. Count Nelson's seat as gone
He dropped 30 points after his little extortion episode. Seems the people of Nebraska can't be bribed into going along with their own subjugation, go figure.

8. Nelson has only himself to blame for making himself the center of attention.

10. Looks like Gallup hasn't weighed in recently
Their October breakdown was amongst the most informative of the pollsters as it clearly showed that support of the bill was dependent on what was included. While public option was at 50% when voters was asked if they believed a bill should include a public option, 56% said they were likely to support a bill which included one while 67% said that they were likely to support a bill including raising taxes on the wealthy. I'd like to know what similar polling is showing now.

http://www.gallup.com/poll/123782/In-U.S.-39-Say-View-Healthcare-Depends-Details.aspx

Their Dec 16th (after the Medicare Buy in compromise) poll shows disapproval 48% to 46% but without any real breakdown.

11. It's only crazy left-wing "firebaggers" who oppose it..
haven't you heard?

The DLC represents the "vast center" of the nation. That overwhelming 21% who support mandates constitute the "mainstream" of American political thinking.

:sarcasm:

I'd be shocked if the 39% in this poll actually know what's in the bill. IOW, that number represents a high water mark.

12. This could be the high point as I really question whether mandates are common knowledge at this
point.

14. A lot of the contributors to my local paper's website seem to think that it's
"socialized medicine" or "government medicine." We should be so lucky!

At any rate, their radio brainwashers are telling them that this is a "liberal" bill designed by the "far left."
