This is real social interaction, but without the face to face. For many it IS their social interaction. When you get some people just hellbent to piss on what they say, it is an insult and in some ways isolating. I'll bet it is easy to think "everyone hates me" kind of thoughts.

There are many reasons someone might use this as their primary social outlet ..... you named but a few.

The infirmed, those who have no family close by, those who live alone for any reason, those who live in some group situation but are still basically alone, even married couples where they work different shifts. And that just scratches the surface.

To come here, take the time to say something, then see it immediately slapped at by some anonymous online punk can actually hurt some people. Since the online punk doesn't see that, the online punk just continues to do it unchecked.

How is this any different than those who blindly recommend posts in "the first-seconds-a-post-is-up?" How many people recommend a post because of the poster as opposed to what has been posted?

I look at the inclusion of the un-recommend feature as an expression of the nature of the site; vote on what should or shouldn't be on the greatest page. Does it matter if someone is "voting for" or "voting against" a topic (in the most basic terms)? I agree, some do abuse the unrec feature, as much as those who abuse the rec feature. Recommending a post based on the poster is as stupid (and juvenile) as un-recommending a post based on the poster. So, what is the real purpose of the recommend feature? Once that is defined, then the un-recommend feature is so defined and posts, such as yours, will be more valid.
