News Corp. Says Deal on Fox Signal Is Unlikely
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/31/business/media/31cable.html

The News Corporation’s president, Chase Carey, declined an offer by Time Warner Cable to enter binding arbitration. The companies are fighting over how much the cable operator should pay Fox stations for the right to retransmit their shows, sporting events and local newscasts. Fox is demanding about a dollar for each cable subscriber each month, which analysts say could set a precedent for broadcasters that want more money from cable and satellite operators.

The contracts expire at midnight Dec. 31. Fox could then take its signal off Time Warner Cable systems in New York, Los Angeles, Dallas and other cities.

Time Warner Cable representatives arrived in Los Angeles early this week for the Fox talks, which are part of a renewal deal that also will affect several cable channels, including FX and the Speed Channel.

The companies traded barbs on Wednesday after the cable operator responded to a letter from Senator John Kerry, Democrat of Massachusetts, and offered to extend talks into 2010. Hours later, Mr. Carey said that the News Corporation would not provide an extension because it had been “trying since the summer to negotiate a fair deal.”

at the strike of midnight tomorrow. This happened last year with something else and there was a last minute deal. Would be nice though, a great beginning to 2010.
Time Warner has a website to vote deal or no deal, been a lot of ads here.

5. Hmmm.
(Right wing) Sinclair Broadcast Group owns some local Fox and other local right-wing stations and Sinclair is doing the same thing to Mediacom Cable. If Mediacom doesn't agree to pay them more then Sinclair's local stations won't be on Mediacom Cable anymore starting January 1. Wingnuts getting greedy all over apparently.

9. why do you think fox buys up the baseball and football deals?
and no, especially in baseball, no other network is going to get the sports contracts. the other networks play a different game about the market.

fox appeals to baser instincts.

heh. unless its like the nba when even a nothing like tnt can pick contracts up for pennies...

7. The Tea Baggers will go insane if they can't worship at the altar of insanity that is FOX Noise
I can't tell you how much I hope this happens.

FOX and CNN are always included in the least expensive cable packages anyways. MSNBC costs me an extra $13.00 a month for the upgrade.

It would be much more fair to compare ratings between the news channels if they were all included or excluded from the same cable packages.

11. Fox channels set to be pulled from Time Warner Cable - Could effect 'American Idol,' Sugar Bowl Rea
http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/tv/2009/12/30/2009-12-30_fox_time_warner_set_to_call_it_quits.html

It looks like Fox is ready to pull the plug on Time Warner Cable.

News Corp. President Chase Carey told staffers it looks like the two sides "will not reach an agreement and our channels may very well go off the air in Time Warner Cable systems" Thursday.

The warning followed a day of negotiations between the two corporate giants, who were planning to talk right up to the deadline.
