DU medical professionals, what if you had to treat Rush?
I know you are supposed to not even consider things outside of the fact that it is a person who needs care, but man, if you got Rush Limbaugh laying there it would have to be a very tough thing to look past.

4. conflicted...
really conflicted.

I guess I'd do what I could...

I would just remind all of the line (paraphrased) from the film Serpico: "It isn't that we'll do anything to you, but we might not be there when you need us most."

6. I'd do it. The man is not worth throwing away my career or my ethics.
Edited on Thu Dec-31-09 11:45 AM by Barack_America
I'd give him the best care I could and keep my mouth shut about it so I could keep my job. Not as much out of any compassion for him, but I've trained for this career so I could help others and he's not worth giving that up.

7. wow. just wow.
I can only imagine the reaction here if/when the bozos in freeperland started a thread suggesting it would okay for medical professionals not to give full care to someone they don't like.

14. I did not even come close to suggesting withholding care.
I'm kind of surprised you read it that way.

My OP is just asking for opinions from medical people who might be confronted with that situation.

21. Minimize the damage which would be unavoidable operating on a non-human species.
Doctors are trained on humans, not pigs.

10. Changing a rotten personality was never my job
although setting some limits so the bastard didn't drive me and everyone else nuts was.

I'm sure his care is impersonal and professional.

Nurses have to deal with all kinds, including child rapists, wife beaters, gang bangers, and other lowlife.

I'm sure the staff is taking Limbag in stride.

11. There was a recent episode of "House" that dealt with treating ....
a fictional African leader guilty of genocide.... It was an interesting ethical consideration and I couldn't help but think the "easy" thing to do is that which you were expected to do-- ignore any feelings towards the man and treat him like any other. Interestingly, one of the more idealistic (and arguably "brave") docs treating him believed that he owed more to the people at risk from this man than to the individual patient and made a conscious decision to do less than required to save him.

Rush Limbaugh may be many things but certainly does not equate to this scenario... I would try to treat him with as much respect and professionalism as I would anyone and hope that by doing, I might send a message or even a lesson to him... As to the genocidal dictator, who knows until faced with such....

20. What a bullshit question. Any medical professional who didn't proper care to ANY patient
not only should be doing something else, but should be fired immediately
