Considering witholding support from Dems only strengthens the Republicans |
|
Is the biggest pile of horse pucky I think I've read here.
Number One - No one here is considering witholding support to make the Party move to the right.
Number Two - If no one is willing to hold the Party accountable from the left the Party will continue a rightward drift.
Number Three - The Republicans will stick together no matter what and will not vote for a bill just so they can scream that ugly liberals are ruining this country.
Number Four - The Party inevitably seems far to the left by those in the media because there is NO left wing representation in the Party (no power). So even repub lite looks gulp, LIBERAL. It is then fed to the masses and liberal thought and ideology never sees the light of day.
Number Five - The liberal base of the party is hated by Republicans and is tossed to the wolves by the Party that that claims to welcome them.
Number Six - It is Liberals who are told to sit down and shut the fuck up, that we don't know what's good for us and this medicine they are forcing on us will make us all better. It is not the other way around.
Number Seven - This isn't about Obama, it's about the real life consequences of politics.
Number Eight - I think of the wondrous things that might be accomplished if people could stop and think how to gain control of a Party that's out of control, that is not representing it's members. If we could gain control it wouldn't be tiny little steps, we would achieve gigantic leaps in progress.
Number Nine - Every single one of us on DU has pretty much the same ideology and political beliefs, the fight is how to achieve it. I think we need to have a party that truly stands by it's words and not cower to Republicans and the media. Instead of insisting we join you, which we have done over and over and over again with very small results, how about thinking of joining us? Make the Democratic Party better based on principle, not based power for nothing.
Happy New Year DU!

8. In our system, the only way to punish a party is to remove it from power... |
|
But we should consider the rammifications of such an act. The Democratic party and the Republican party is not the same. The polices put into force by the Republian party, when they come back to power, will be opposed to anything progressive.
Rather than with holding a vote, we might consider a concentrated effort to remove specific people from power. Don't like what the Senate did. Have progressive Democrats campaign to get Reid replaced by a better Democratsor, if that fails, see that the Republican wins. That way, we don't loose the power of the agenda, but we do send a message. Even if we fail, Reid will know that he has created a political enemy that he should not piss off.

9. That is an option. I am a tad radical, sometimes, yet i think |
|
that I am only that way because I feel very boxed in. I feel there are no other options.
I would like to have a concerted effort that can be identified as liberal, where we somehow exert our power.
