Do not wish for another person to die. |
|
It will not affect the outcome, since we each die at the time we die, and not a minute before. However, making such a wish diminishes the person doing the wishing. Such a wish is a negative emotional reaction, and such reactions have a negative effect on the person, perhaps even a physical effect, that may hasten your own death.
Why harm yourself with a wish that accomplishes nothing? It makes no sense.

in direct opposition to what Jesus was recorded to having said. Perhaps he needs to re-read Matthew. Perhaps many Christians have that need.
As an atheist, I only consider the effects of my thoughts on myself. I regret any hatred I have felt for any other person. Such feelings did me no good, nor the other person any harm. A worthless exercise. Life is too short.

he will have to feel the sorrow and anguish and terror he inspired not only in the people who heard or saw him but in the people they turned around to and interacted with. ripples in the pond. imagine the tidal wave of horror he has to acknowledge. Its his punishment. I don't wish death on him. Maybe if he sits in his golden palace, the riches of the world showering down on him and his kind, the ignorant haters of the world, loving him but never personally, never real in any sense that matters, he will notice that it doesn't matter when your body decides to punish you. that is his ordeal.

It will, however, not affect the person doing the praying any harm, either. What does no harm harms nobody.
As an atheist, I consider prayer to be a waste of time, but have no brief with those who pray, as long as they do not pray for harm to come to anyone.

44. I've never wished for anyone to die...not even the man who molested my kid |
|
the man who also happens to be my brother-in-law.
What I did do was assure myself that Life would deal with him appropriately and in its own time.
And it has...for over 24 years.
I didn't wish for it. I just knew somehow that he would be punished for what he did.
I can't lie and say I'm not secretly pleased...at least a tiny little bit...each time I hear of some new disaster to befall him. Although whatever disasters that befall him also affect his family...most of whom are totally innocent of any such misdeeds, and a couple of them are also victims of his perversion.
I no longer hate him. I'm just not real sorry when I hear about some new disaster in his life. When he dies, I won't be glad because quite frankly, it will be the end of his suffering here on earth. Plus he still has a wife and children who will, I assume, be devastated by their loss.
I'll be sorry for them, but for him I will probably have no feeling whatsoever.

Then it doesn't really matter either way. If it makes people feel good, then turn the other way. They aren't going to say "You know, you're right!"
