Where the hell did the term First family or first lady come from.
I means not a damn thing in reality. Why not just get rid of such a stupid term ?

I have never liked the term because of what it implies.

We are people and who the hell knows who the first family was in the first place. Could have been cave men for all we know.

I am not religous but this term to me sort of over rides all men or lets just change that to all people were created equal.

There is no first or number one , that's a man made illusion that got the world where it is now all so fucked up.

First my ass. Look at Bush Sr and his wife , do you call that first other than maybe the first real visual horror show if you discount the horror movies from time gone by.

1. because it sounds so royal
I always thought that the rich and powerful in this country are pissed that they can't be looked upon as royalty.

2. wikipedia is your friend
"The title "First Lady" originated in the United States in 1849, when United States President Zachary Taylor called Dolley Madison "First Lady" at her state funeral while reciting a eulogy written by himself."

10. That would be too easy, though, but then the point was not to ask a question.
The point was to use the question as an opportunity to spew a snarky rant.

12. A snarky rant about what?
I said what I feel about the term and I have never liked it. It implies royalty to me. Get your crystal ball fixed.

Almost as bad as the illusory "first" chair violin.

Unless of course we perceive the term as a mere shorthand as I do.
