The flight was late and I missed the last great party of the century at a nameless studio exec's mansion.
I thought that sucked.

5. I remember the night very well. |
|
After the partying I went to bed but woke to the sound of fireworks. I went to the window and looked out at the street scene below. There was new snow and it was lovely, glistening, and I went back to bed believing everything would be fine. If only I'd fucking known.

It was cold but we all had a good time. Some wine, some fireworks, blankets, a bonfire...
Plus, we survived Y2K, history's greatest peril.

7. I was in South East Asia, visiting family |
|
I had just finished school and was on a three month holiday before I started university. Our family (my immediate family plus my uncles, aunties and cousins gathered at the home of one of my cousins for a party to ring in the New Year. We were all enjoying ourselves and having a great time celebrating -although it was somewhat tinged with sadness because my Uncle, who had been looking forward to seeing in the new Milennium, had died earlier that year and we were all missing him. My late 93-year old grandmother was also there, having seen all but six years of the past century and enjoying being surrounded by all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Reflecting back on it now, the memories are almost magical
At 12:00AM we all gathered round and sung Auld Lane Syne. All the lights went off as it struck midnight and our immediate thought was that Y2K had hit. But it was just some bright spark in our family, playing a practical joke. We then went to another house where our immediate and extended family had gathered for our traditional New Year's Day Party at 1AM in the morning.
Wonderful memories of wonderful times. I remember the peace and prosperity, the hopefulness, optimism and idealism I had for the future. Now all tragically gone. I miss those days:cry:
