Some of us believe in Karma.
I believe that Rush Limbaugh is experiencing a bit of his own right this very instant. So why would I choose to incur the same thing by wishing him dead?

1. Very good point. He's only an entertainer - no different than

"Larry, Cable Guy", Jeff FoxUNworthy, Chris "Rock", G. Beck et al.

4. He is not an entertainer
He is a fat, lazy, unintellectual, racist, misogynistic RW bigot who has spewed more hatred than most for a few decades.

7. That's A Serious Underestimation Of The Damage Limbaugh Has Inflicted. (n/t)

"Only an entertainer," my ass. There are direct links from Limbaugh to Dubya's presidency, Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, the Teabaggers, and on and on. It's no exaggeration to say that Limbaugh is the most destructive molder of public opinion since Joseph Goebbels. Equating him with the likes of Larry the Cable Guy is about as wrong-headed as it gets......

2. Playing God never works out
wish bad on somebody and it comes back 10X worse on you...who knows maybe he'll have a David Brock epiphany-it kind of slipped through the day after the 2006 election when he said he wouldn't "carry water" for these people any longer.

I'll tell you guys this, my friend was his chef for a few years when he first got thinner and one day Rush said to him "I hate your car" (old clunker) and he took him to the West Palm Honda dealership and bought him a brand new Honda CRV....pretty good karma there. Get well Rush.

5. I would rather he live and have a scandal
I would rather he live and have some additional scandals come out, that would do far more harm to his idiot followers being taken seriously than for him to die and become their martyr and Democrats being criticized for "speaking ill of the dead" (which of course only applies to Democrats because Reps can say what they want about Ted Kennedy obviously, but they always get a double-standard).

He is worth far more to us alive then dead and mourned with all his warts suddenly swept under the carpet and the media fawning about his remarkable life for days on end.

Yes, Rush Limbaugh definitely needs to pull through this.

8. Yeah, That Really Worked Out Well, Last Time.

You know what happened after Rush's big drug scandal? His followers replaced their "Rush Is Right" bumper stickers with "Even On Drugs, Rush Is Right" bumper stickers. Any notion that Democrats will benefit from Limbaugh's continued existence is beyond naive.......

9. The media will make him a GOD if he dies
It is a touch naive to think the media won't make the man a God and treat his death as the greatest tragedy imaginable if he dies. Remember Tim Russert? He was a pretty good guy, but the media goes all out for their own, and if Limbaugh dies he will become a legend with no warts, and someone whose every utterance in life is to be taken seriously from now on. The media whores would use it to unite the Republican Party in a common bond of mourning and cash in on the ratings.

We can't trust our media enough for the guy to croak.

15. Who in the media talks about Tim Russert these days? No one.
Limbaugh is a person in the media so they will naturally spend some time on him when he finally and mercifully croaks. A few months later he'll be forgotten...except for all of the negative things that will come out about him after he's dead. You know, the things people find when going through ones belongings, the people who kept their mouths shut to avoid his wrath when he was alive who suddenly come clean, the co-workers who feared for their careers when Pig Boy held their livelihoods in his swollen hands. A lot will come out once he's dead and buried.

But make him a god? Don't think so.

17. Russert was *not* a pretty good guy. He carried water for the RW. He was
coopted by Jack Welch, who used to brag about having used money and status to turn him from a one-time liberal to a RW Republican. I remember an rticle about how Tim, at some reception for either the 2000 or the 2004 election, approached W and slyly turned over his lapel to show him that he had secreted a Bush/Cheney button underneath it.

I guarantee that Rush will get the Reagan treatment if he dies.

I want him to live long enough to fall the way other loudmouthed former media darlings like Morton Downey, Jr., and another guy, whose name I can't recall, who had one of the earliest RW TV shot shows did. They usually end up falling into a life of drunken misbehavior that totaly discredits them and their past pronouncements, and that is what I hope Rush has time to do. Before he dies I want him completely discredited in a way even the RW can't ignore. I hate the idea of his being elevated to sainthood by the media the way Reagan was.

16. When he went deaf from Oxycontin abuse, he made a point
of saying that he didn't plan on becoming some sort of poster child for deaf people. He was actually afraid that his deafness might be used to raise awareness of the problems and needs of deaf people.

I am severely hearing impaired myself, and I have a website where I post my (mostly humorous) rants about the difficulties of dealing with hearing loss in a world full of impatient "hearies."

With no effort on his part Rush could have done a lot to raise awareness, but his first reaction was to make sure that no one used his situation to better the conditions for deaf and hearing impaired people. He was worried that his deafness might be used to do some good.

Oh, BTW, here is the link to my deaf/Hard of Hearing site:

6. I do. I've seen enough of it in action.
I think people who don't believe in it sometimes think Karma has to be immediate and in a form/manner they understand or agree with.

10. Why believe in karma? Seems awfully silly to me.
Edited on Fri Jan-01-10 11:48 AM by stopbush
Especially in this case.

Rush is an overweight, drug-addicted smoker who spends most of his time in an agitated state. He has a job where his fat ass and his corpulence sit for long periods of time while he flails at windmills.

There's no need to invoke a fantasy like karma to understand why he ended up in the hospital. The guy's a textbook case of a personal health time bomb. Rush is a biological creature just like the rest of us, and he's not immune from inflicting damage on his biological self through his shitty lifestyle.

13. But see, this is where Karma often steps in and...
does the unexpected.

Rush Limbaugh has abused his body, and any normal human being would assume that his eventual demise would probably happen as a result of that, but Karma has a different answer...

Karma might have him meeting his end in a totally different manner, perhaps as a result of how he's chosen to make his living...not how he's treated his body.

I mean, you just never know....

PS-

(I just want to say that this is NOT to wish bad upon him...just to point out that Life can often amuse itself with odd happenings none of us would expect)

And we never will know if "karma" was involved because it's impossible to prove make believe.

11. If you believe in karma, you can't wish ill on anyone...
because it might come back to bite you in the ass. On the other hand, if you show compassion to those who don't deserve it (or whom you think don't deserve it), someone will likely show compassion to you when you don't deserve it. I made a couple of jokes about Rush, but I don't wish him dead. He's a human being, after all, or at least that is what he appears to be on the outside.

12. I don't believe in karma. I believe that Limbaugh abused his body
in such a way that predisposed him to heart trouble or perhaps it runs in his family.

Now... I'm off to smoke a Marlboro.

19. Because kharma, like God or Allah, is complete BS. I know this
to be uequivocably true, otherwise there are a few folks in my past that would be suffering dearly for their abuse of me and others, instead they are disgustingly rich and sated. Kharma belief is for saps.

20. My only wish is that he knows what is going on and hears some
nurses and doc doctors comment to the effect that he has a 20/80 chance of making it. Hearing that will give him time to be scared to death. If he makes it, his gain, our loss.
I don't wish death on anyone. Nothing says I have to wish for recovery.

24. you're confused on karma. wishing him dead has no power to make him dead.
Edited on Fri Jan-01-10 04:55 PM by Hannah Bell
rush's spew, otoh, helped push through & legitimize policies that actually made people dead.

those wishing him ill = karmic agents, returning his spew to him.

people getting sick & dying isn't karmic. everyone gets sick & dies.

but i think it's interesting how so many on DU are repeating the profoundly reactionary meme that merely *wishing* harm on our oppressors will bring *us* harm -- & trying to sell it as higher-level wisdom.
