Doctors send Rush Limbaugh a fruit basket and encourage a vegan diet

The doctors at Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) delivered a fruit basket to Rush Limbaugh who is being monitored at Queen’s Medical Center after experiencing chest pains yesterday.
Pictures of Queen's Medical Center

The basket, containing vegetables, fruits, and other vegetarian foods, was accompanied by well wishes and an invitation to join PCRM’s 21-Day Vegan Kickstart program which begins on January 1.

PCRM President Neal D. Barnard, MD, wrote to the radio talk show host, “In our grandparents’ day, people knew the value of humble beans, vegetables, and fruits, often growing them in their own family gardens. These foods have essentially no cholesterol and very little saturated fat. Nowadays, many Americans are very liberal with meat, dairy products, and end up needing to rely on medications to counteract the effects of their diets.” <snip>

1. I doubt he's eaten a fruit or vegetable in his life.
When is there time? He has to consume at least five whole farm animals a day to maintain his "stature".

10. His diet is supposedly heavy on artificial sweeteners
Edited on Fri Jan-01-10 11:22 AM by Sanity Claws
Someone mentioned that they saw the diet his new girlfriend put him on and it involved a lot of a certain artificial sweetener.

That may be a low-carb, high protein diet, meaning lots of meat.

28. I remember when I was a bartender, one of the favorite diets among
my clientele was low carb and high protein because allegedly you could still drink alcohol and lose weight. It was known as the drinking man's diet. I know Rush has a problem with drugs, but I'm wondering if alcoholism is also part of it.

9. I sometimes buy men's clothes and shoes too..
One, pockets. When I go out, I need pockets and
women's clothes are notoriously short on decent
pockets... particularly when I'm walking for
exercise.

I don't always buy men's athletic shoes, but
every so often I do when I can't find a type
in women's.

Also, don't forget about haircuts.. much
cheaper for men.

22. And to think! Rush does ads for Humane Society of United States...
Seems he doesn't want some animals some where hurt. The HSUS is the nation's largest and wealthiest anti-hunting organization.

"El Rushbo did two public-service announcements in support of the virulently anti-hunting Humane Society... He praised the HSUS as an 'ally' of law enforcement in 'the animal realm'.... Rush called HSUS's plan to enlist churches in its agenda 'positive' for American values... "By supporting HSUS, the Maharushi disrespected a large segment of his audience made up on sportsmen, proving he's someone with 'talent on loan.'"

30. Even a broken clock is right twice a day. He also has cats, which is
strange. Usually, people with huge egos and fascist proclivities like dogs but hate cats because they can't make them obedient. Napoleon and Hitler hated cats and there is a string of other dictators too long to list here that hated them as well.

34. Actually, it's a hour glass... and it ran out...
I don't know about the relationship of household pets to "huge egos and fascist proclivities," but Limbaugh's support for a group which seeks to ban hunting is just another page out of the Prohibition Handbook. What's strange is how many "liberals" in DU continue to reach for that badly dog-eared edition on the desk.

I have killed 2 deer this season, and my freezer is filled with all-natural wild meat. This has lessened my reliance on "commercial" meat. The bigger problem is to lessen my impact on nature by adjusting vegetable intake. Hunting is killing directly, buying meat is killing by (an expensive) agent, agriculture is killing by abstraction (a farm is a memorial to the ecosystem of MANY animals which used to live there).

Here is an excerpt from p. 257 of BLOODTIES: Nature, Culture and the Hunt, Ted Kerosote, Random House, 1993:

"Then he (Pacelle, head of HSUS) picks my brain about the Greenlanders with whom I lived. After hearing about their seal and narwhal hunts, he says, 'I'm not going to say that I support what they do, nor will I say that I oppose it. I will say this: I can understand that they want to retain their distinct cultural food-gathering activity. But does someone in New York City have an obligation to buy a sealskin coat or fur coat to keep that market alive?'

"'But why do they stay there?' he asks. He is wide awake and fired up for walking.

"What?"

"'Why do the Greenlanders stay there? What's the name of the place --' He pulls at the air with a hand.

"Kullorsuaq."

"'Yeah. It seems like such a barren place to live.'

"Of all the questions we've discussed, this one seems to have the most obvious answer. I say, 'It's their home.'

"He shrugs and turns to the stack of newspapers on his desk...

___________

Pacelle is against all hunting and, if he could muster the support, all fishing. And evidently he cares little that his goals can be termed cultural imperialism.

Trying to say that in the good ol' days everyone was a vegan is an odd approach.

I felt MUCH better than I even had in my teens! It was proof of food IS fuel, and the results were astounding.

I'm currently staying with my brother and sister-in-law who love the All American Diet, but as soon as I get my own place, I'll be back in the saddle.

I'm a VEGAN -- joyous!!

Though I had some "noodles" at a Chinese restaurant tonight I'm not sure about!!!

If I have a glass of wine, then I'm not always checking what I'm eating -- hmm.....

Everything else was veg --
