In the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, and during buildup to the Iraq invasion, political pressure from the American right demanded that the "loyal opposition" embrace President Bush -- literally.
The 43rd president's addresses to Congress delivered two of the decade's memorable hugs, a Bush embrace by Senate Democratic Leader Tom Daschle and an emotional hug from Sen. Joe Lieberman, then a Democrat.
By contrast, go to a search engine and you'll find page after page of abuse directed at "Baghdad Jim," the label given Rep. Jim McDermott by Washington, D.C.'s neoconservative warriors when McD and two other dissenting Democrats traveled to Iraq's capital in September of 2002.
