Minnesota State Senate Candidate Removes Racist Comments from His Twitter Feed

Posted by Andrea Nill, Think Progress at 3:04 PM on January 1, 2010.

But scrubbing is easier said than done these days.

Local bloggers are reporting that Minnesota State Senate candidate Mike Parry removed more than 43 racist and homophobic tweets from his Twitter feed after progressives began researching and responding to him. The Minnesota Independent highlights one of Parry’s scrubbed tweets, which was apparently directed at President Barack Obama:

The day after the New York Times published an editorial on the Matthew Shepard Act and a week after it was passed in the House, Parry posted a tweet stating “what’s with Dems and Pedophiles?” After winning the GOP’s endorsement this week, Parry aptly described himself as “pro-life, a Christian, a second amendment rights supporter, a hard worker and not politically correct.”

1. I'm just stunned that people -- especially aspiring politicians -- are just so
blase about their racism and homophobia. Do they think EVERYBODY thinks like they do?

I have been surprised at the level of racism and homophobia that has come to light since Obama was elected and the marriage rights issues have been in the news. I am just so saddened that these viewpoints seem to be acceptable to so many of my fellow Americans. :(

I hope this ass is forced to withdraw and the GOP trips over itself trying to distance itself from him. And good on the Minnesota Independent for printing the evidence.

2. Why don't they just say "uppity Negro"?
Just say it. We know what they really mean anyway.

3. We have had a few crazy ones here...
While he has now lost his seat Mark Olson was another extremely messed up Republican from Minnesota. A couple years ago he was found guilty of domestic assault for, I kid you not, beating his wife with a Bible.
